I'm a white woman that had a serious relationship with an asian man. However, he was not from the US, but a Japanese man living in the States - so my experience doesn't really match the scenario painted here

One of the first things they teach you if you ever take a Sociology course is that a person's ideas about what is acceptable are formed by what they see others doing around them. There's even a proven theory that says the more often you see something, the more likely you are to carry out that same action. This is how you family, your peers, and society in general tells you 'this kind of person is ok for someone like you to marry'. This is why people generally look for others of the opposite gender to have relationships with. It is why, in our culture, we don't marry anyone remotely related to us, even though the genetic dangers of incest virtually disapear if you were to marry someone as far removed as a first cousin

I've just been staring at the screen for god knows how long trying to formulate a response that wasn't sarcastic or disdainful. It's nice to know, however, that there's a study that claims I'm not likely to get married... I'd just like to know when VH1 went over this and if they'll be doing it again, so I can catch it. Um... Maybe they should factor in the Jews, who are usually technically white but from what I've noticed they adore black people, regardless of gender.
your getting caught up tooo much with the word VH1. I doubt that VH1 made the study. i truly doubt it that VH1 made a scientific study but i stated the things i stated because thats what i see. asian this, blacks that, white this, this is what i see. to me, its fact.
very interesting post, I can't personally relate to any of these situations but I'd just like to say that I happened to see a video on this EXACT topic last night, I don't think it was the same one you saw but here it is (I have to say I found it quite funny, even though it may be a serious topic): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHsCSi6uO8k
as far as i could tell, asians are actually very racist (no offence to anyone here, im talking statistically). it makes perfect sense that an asian man would never have a relationship with a black woman. again, im talking numbers here, but asian men and women are more likely to date another asian than any other race; and a white more likely than a black.
asian women may have an easier time having a relationship with other races because there may be less pressure on them culturally to marry another asian--- or at least different social pressures are forced on them, than are asian men.
i can think of so many other reasons for this discrepancy (asian cultural studies is my CRACK)... but its late... ^_^;;
As far as I am concerned the colour of a person's skin is imaterial. It is the person inside that counts........drawing attention to our differences is never going to result in social harmony. Mixed marriages are one way that communities become closer in the long term, even if there are disagreements between families at the beginning.
mix breeds makes for better understanding. thats what i believe in. but be real. you will be more drawn to preferences. if you like a certain group more than others, you will give them more chances to make mistakes and you'll see them in a different light than others. truth or not?
if you like a certain group more than others, you will give them more chances to make mistakes and you'll see them in a different light than others.Of course this is true, but our preferences are not dictated by skin colour naturally....this is a societal thing. If you watch a group of 3-4 yr olds on their first day at nursery, they make friends with everyone..........unless they have been subject to racist views previously, or told a certain group is bad
( ... )
everyone is subjected to "social things" as you say. no matter or where ever you are unless you live in a bio-dome or any other controlled environment, your subjected to having racial views. NO MATTER who you are. no matter if your brought up that way or not. isnt the saying, it takes a village to raise a child true? it hasnt been proven wrong yet.
racial views is just human nature. HUMAN NATURE. sad but true.
as far as world war 3, the topic is broad. my only answer to that is learn your history(crusade), learn from your mistakes.
