uh, i think it takes us to be thick-skinned and kaypoh enough to do something even if others are around? haha idk man. if im ever in that situation i'll tell you hahaha....
I sorta agree. I think Singaporeans would take a picture of the baby in the car & put it on Stomp.. But most wouldn't do anything actively, if I may say so. Having said that, I used "most", meaning that there would be a few kind souls who try to help the poor baby in the car.
People who take put up pictures of babies stuck in cars on Stomp deserve to be thrown in jail or at least slapped with a hefty fine, if they don't do anything about it. Even if they're not up to breaking the car windows, at least help more "passively", like calling the police or something.
It's like witnessing a car accident while driving. Very few people, if no one, actually stop to help, but everyone slows down to take down the license plate numbers.
You see, that's exactly the idea! It's not about being thick-skinned or kaypoh enough, it's about the diffusion of social responsibility. Even if it's something as simple as someone dropping a stack of files, people are less likely to help if there are a lot of people around as opposed to if you're the only one around.
That being said, even knowing that this phenomenon exists, I'm not sure if I'd actually step up. Maybe there's a personality factor involved, who knows?
