I have a great aversion to owning stuff. It makes me feel trapped. But also it feels wasteful. I try to keep my ecological footprint small. So many people have so much stuff that they hardly ever or even never use. My rule of thumb is if i am not going to actively use something at least once a week, every week, i shouldn't buy it. I love it! I’m jealous that it has a rack for panniers. I know I can get one for my second-hand Brompton, but it’s expensive. I may do what I did when I needed a replacement stem - see what I can find on AliExpress. I had my doubts, but that seems to be the way to go for after-market parts. The local Brompton dealer told me to do it when he couldn’t get me a stem (Brompton doesn’t sell them, even though there is a well-known issue with the little knobby thing you use to lock the bike closed).

I hope it is perfect for your needs. Sounds like you have got some great ideas on places to go already.

Also, yay grass jelly!

AliExpress - even Amazon - is crapshoot because the quality control in these lower tier brands tends not to be as good as the global brands. On the other hand a part that's engineered at 90% still means 9 times out of 10 you're not gonna get a dud, or 9 times out of 10 your requirements aren't in the outlier usage that might trigger a failure. I fear that long distance touring is probably more of an outlier use case, but at such a huge cost difference it was worth the risk for me, especially here in Taiwan where you're never too far away from a town and another bike shop. We'll see how it goes!
