Miss your fireplace in the wintertime?

Here's a fun tip - leave your broiler on for about an hour, and close the oven door completely. If you can turn it off at that point (the buttons will be painfully hot to the touch), crack the door open and let the heat roll out just like from a hearth, to warm your heart.

I'm surprised the damn cooktop isn't glowing red! ;(

No - electric heating is even less efficient, and I'm not sure the heating elements will even get that hot...

Heh. Yeah, I used to do that all the time when I had gas appliances (and lived in a place where all utilities were included in my rent).

Ahaha I used to live in an old house with no heat and I'd always make up excuses to bake all sorts of things so I could be warm by the oven ^.^

According to the CDC, using your gas stove for heat can be dangerous and even deadly. I would be cautious about doing so if I were you.

Here's the link: http://www.cdc.gov/co/faqs.htm

Sorry to be the buzzkill :(

I guess I need to be more clear - THIS WAS A MISTAKE, and one that put me at great physical risk.

I would NEVER do this on purpose - it's stupid, and dangerous, and a waste of energy. I thought I turned it off after I pulled the meat out of the oven, but kept hearing the metal creaking and popping as it heated up, so I checked it after watching TV for a while.

DON'T DO THIS AT HOME!!!! ;)

Thanks for clarifying. There are lots of people who do this on purpose, and I guess I just didn't read your post as clearly as I should have to realize you aren't one of those people. Sorry!
