Pepa and Silvia scrambled to their feet, adjusting their clothing to a considerate normal state.
Don Lorenzo shook his head disapprovingly at the lack of professionalism just displayed by his Forensic Inspector and Police Agent.
“Well?” Don Lorenzo questioned, “Did I not give an order, Miranda?” He looked between Pepa and Silvia with a raised eyebrow.
“Yes, sir,” Pepa softly spoke, “I just notified Silvia and we were on our way.” She held a small grin on her face, reminiscing the early events of their foreplay. Silvia sense that was what Pepa was thinking and quickly grabbed her lover’s hand.
“Let’s go, Pepa.” Silvia led Pepa towards the exit but was blocked by the incoming Paco and Mariano.
“Don Lorenzo!” Paco called. He stopped at the door, causing Mariano to collide behind him and then cursing at each other. Don Lorenzo shook his head disapprovingly again.
“Don Lorenzo. Dr. Lucia Castillo was murdered last night.” Paco informed,” We just have been notified and the body is prepared for autopsy.
“Dr. Lucia Castillo?” Don Lorenzo and Silvia exclaimed in unison.
“How could this have happen?” Silvia whispered. Paco and Mariano answered with a shrug.
Pepa was obviously out of the loop with this case as she had no idea why everyone was distraught over the death of this particular doctor.
“Who is Dr. Castillo?” Pepa finally asked.
“She was a one of our forensic inspector at the precinct,” Don Lorenzo started but then was at lost of words.
“Two years ago Dr. Castillo developed a new technique to compare DNA analysis and it became a medical breakthrough,” Silvia explained, “It created a media frenzy but with the publicity it uproar to a legal battle between another doctor - Dr. Hector Pena. Dr. Pena accused that Dr. Castillo had stolen his research and claim it as hers.”
Pepa skillfully took notes in her head as she was brief of the history. This case was undeniably of high importance to precinct.
“But the courts ordered that the research was Castillo’s. That was when the death threats began,” Paco finished, “Don Lorenzo, the police agent scheduled to escort her last night was attacked last night. We found him unconscious at the side of Castillo’s home.”
“Joder! Paco, contact Montoya and have him assemble a team to investigate the crime scene. Mariano, ensure the body arrives straight to the lab. Eduardo can do the autopsy.” Don Lorenzo commanded. Paco pulled his cellphone and dialed Montoya as Mariano rushed out the door.
“No,” Silvia demanded, “This case is too critical to be botched. I am the best Forensic Inspector at San Antonio. I will perform the autopsy.” She began buttoning her lab coat. Pepa eyes widen at Silvia’s statement.
“What?” Pepa asked. She pulled Silvia aside. “Pelirroja, we are going on vacation. I promised you a road trip. They can handle this case without you, without us.” Pepa tried to pull some sense to her lover but it was a losing battle. Once Silvia had her mind set, she was determined to see it to the end.
“No. I’m taking this case. We can start our vacation tomorrow. My autopsy and the report will be completed today and then we can go.”
Why would Pepa argue? She sighed out loud and let Silvia win this battle but later she was going to get even.
Paco closed his cell phone and wiped the sweat off his brow. “Montoya will be here shortly.”
“Good,” Don Lorenzo said. Just then Mariano, Povedilla and Kiki wheeled the lifeless body covered in a white sheet into the lab. They positioned it at the centre of the lab and Silvia pounced at the body. She removed the white sheet and immediately examined the wounds.
“Dr. Lucia Castillo, sir,” Pove quietly announced and passed a file folder to Don Lorenzo. He kept his eyes away from the body as he had never gotten use to the sight of a corpse.
“She has been dead for over 8 hours,” Silvia reported, “The bruises show that she was badly beaten and her right leg has been severed. There is also single gunshot wound to the chest. I’m assuming the gunshot was what killed her.” She took the file folder from her father and skimmed through the papers. Don Lorenzo, annoyed that his daughter took the folder, peered over her shoulder to read but Silvia shrugged him off as if he was an annoying bee.
“Was the leg recovered?” Silvia asked not removing her eyes from the file.
“I found it!!” Rita’s voice screeched from the hallway. She came barreling through the door with a severed leg enclosed in an clear evidence marked bag, “I found the leg!”
Rita, unaware of the amount of people in the lab try to halt in her running steps but ended up banging into Paco. The leg flew out of her hands and smacked Pove in the head which caused him to lost his balance. He fell on top of the corpse and pulled it and himself crashing on the floor.
Everyone one screamed in horror as they watched Pove joust with the heavy body on the floor.
“Be careful with the body!” Silvia screamed.
“Help him, you fools!” Don Lorenzo bellowed.
Everyone quickly rushed to Pove side; struggling to pull him and the body off the floor. After ruckus subsided, they finally set Lucia Castillo’s body back on the table and Montoya entered the lab.
“Sir, I have assembled for a team. We are heading to the crime scene right now,” Montoya gestured at Pepa and the rest of the men as the team.
“Perfect. Keep me posted. When all evidence has been collected, Pepa bring it back to Silva for processing,” The Commissioner advised. He finally took the file folder away from Silvia.
Silva held back her annoyance and scanned her lab.
“What is this? A party?” Silvia barked, “There is too many people in here! Everyone! Out, now!”
Everyone who knew Silvia’s temper quickly filed out of the lab, including Pepa.

Pepa was exhausted.
She had just finished a grueling 8 straight hours of investigating the Castillo’s residence that all she could think about was the much needed vacation she and her princesa deserved.
With evidence bags in tow, she opened the lab door to find Silvia bent down, peering at the insides of the body. Pepa dropped her shoulders in disappointment. They were never going to make it out of the precinct!
“You’re not done examining the body? Silvia, you should have been done hours ago!” Pepa exclaimed in frustration. She dropped the evidence bags on the counter and rolled her neck.
“You can’t rush an autopsy, Pepa,” Silvia replied but did not look up from the body, “We all can’t just half ass and leave.”
Pepa brushed away the fact the last comment was directed at her, “Vale. Then let me help. What can I do?”
Silvia stood up from her position and ponder if letting Pepa was a good idea. Pepa was a great police agent but lab work was not comparable.
“Fine,” Silvia gave in, “I just finished with the autopsy and I have collected samples from the body which I have already placed on stained slides. View each slide under the microscope and record a description of the samples. Then I have time to sort through the evidence bag and create that report. When we finished, we can hand the reports to Montoya and we are off on our road trip.”
Pepa nodded once and scanned the room.
“Um... Silvia.. where are the slides?”
“Beside the microscope,” Silvia answered and began working on the body. Pepa looked around the lab again.
“Um... Silvia... where is the microscope?” Pepa asked again.
“Pepa! You said you were going to help me!” Silvia exasperated, “Over by the computer.”
Pepa looked again and found the black apparatus and box of slides. She made her way to the microscope and stared blankly.
“Um...Silvia... how do I use this?”
Silvia almost dropped her forceps into the body. She turned and gaped at the brunette.
“Are you kidding me? We used them in high school, Pepa!”
“Well, I remember sleeping in science class, not paying attention.” Pepa nonchalantly remarked. She waved a slide towards Silvia in a childish manner. Silvia rolled her eyes and began showing Pepa the basics of using a microscope.
Once Silvia was satisfied that Pepa could continue the work on her own, she went back to Lucia Castillo and closed her chest.
She couldn’t believe Pepa didn’t know how to use a common tool like a microscope, but brushed it off thinking how sexy her lover looked using one.
Then she heard a crack of a glass....
