you fail, starbucks

Starbucks has this thing called Mission Review, and it's a way for partners (employees) to communicate concerns to the company, the higher ups, etc. And I've always been assured that they read all the contributions, and that seemed to have been true, until recently ( Read more... )

Oh dear. Looks like whoever's required to answer those things is stuck with form responses. That sucks on both sides. I'm sure whoever responded to that probably wanted to say "yes, that sucks in your situation and I'll look into it but I doubt anything can be done" but was prevented to by a set policy response. (Not that I know anything about these issues. Nope, not at all) I would totally write a comment about the lack of addressing the issue.

the weird thing is, i've written several Mission Reviews (no doubt flagging myself as some sort of upstart rebel) and I've gotten actual responses to them. this whole form response thing is new.

the other thing that's been bugging me is, ever since Howard Schultz came back, SBUX has been all about introducing new things to attract customers back/ new customers. While we did have several special training sessions that i think were effective in setting a baseline of acceptable drink practices, most of these improvements have added to partners workload without any recompense. For example, when they introduced the half hour hold time, we were given more labor hours to adjust to it. Now they've taken it away. Not that there isn't the same amount of work, but now we should be used to the higher workload.

I agree, at least when companies are honest about not giving a crap - it better than pretending to.

I'm curious to know the outcome of your follow-up Mission Review regarding the form response you received.

Hellaeiou Miss Angela! Long time since I've heard from you. I am currently: 1. living in England 2. On (ever so delicious) ecstasy, 3. in the room of my very lovely gent Will.

What are you doing besides working for starbucks? Are you dating ladies or mens? Are you in grad school?

love, Andrea

hey there. what are you doing in England? having more fun than me, most likely.

I am no longer in grad school. short story is that it didn't work out, i wasted 3 years of my life, and didn't even get my consolation prize (masters). I'm a supervisor at Starbucks, and i actually like it a lot, but if they don't promote me to assistant manager soon, i'll have to leave. Berkeley is expensive. I'm planning on going to nursing school, but that's more plan than action at the moment.

i am generally dating menfolk. you seem to be as well.

I wish i had some ecstasy.

I like your little angry spider thing icon.

I am dating one mens in particular; he's the main reason I'm in England. I've been living here for just over a year now.

What am I doing? Working pay-the-bills jobs (temping, right now), writing lots, hanging out with punks and hippies and geeks -- pretty much the same things I've been doing for the last 10 years, only in a different country.

More fun? Hm...I don't know how much fun you're having, but I'm having a hell of a lot.

*passes virtual drugs*; *waves*; *goes off to sleep now ::yawn yawn::*.
