As shitty as things can get, I have yet to encounter the problem that cannot be fixed, if only momentarily, by Vietnamese food.

Aha!  It's brake fluid, not oil.  And it's definitely coming from the rear brake hose.  Why it's on the left side of the bike, I don't know.  But I'm proud of myself for figuring out what it is and where it's coming from. =)
