The list price is $1600 and it's the cheapest turntable VPI makes.

The black thing on top is a clamp. You take that off, but the record on the platter, and screw that thing back on. The thought is, if you add more weight and mass to the record it will sound better.

Most of the records you will listen to on that turntable probably cost less than $1600 to record. I don't think it's going to make them sound any better. You did see the fine shelf unit I have for sale at the store, right?
