one more thing

I've been saying for a year or so that I want to do a class on making 14th century fitted gowns, a sort of practical followup for folks who've taken the Netherton classes or want to learn how to drape and fit a comfy supportive dress. From the people who have asked me about this, it sounds like I should do one in Seattle and one in the Portland ( Read more... )

Just so's ya know...Robin will be doing her lectures here in Eugene the third weekend in October. Karis and I are putting it together, it'll be a non-SCA event. We'll be putting up the website at the end of April or so with the info.
And your dress? Smashing. Loved the color!

I'm sure your class will fill right up but I thought I'd make an offer--we love going down to Portland and I know about drapping (although not so much about this particular period). Would you like a semi-knowledgeable TA who can help other people pin their dresses and would get to learn more about this period from you in the process? (What I'm saying is that I would like to come and watch and listen and help others, but not make my own dress). June is good for me too.

What Ariel said. :) I've done this one a few times, and taken the class with Robin, and I'd happily be safety-pin lady for ya. Some assistants make it easier...and darn, having time to caboodle together..how awful... :)

Yes! the more folks with an understanding of draping, the better- the hardest part of this process is keeping the grain straight and figuring out where to tighten or loosen when it's not doing what you want. So I'd be delighted to have your help (and company)!

What a great offer- thanks!
That would be very helpful. Would you be interested in TA-ing for the Seattle one, or would a trip to Portland make it more fun?

I'd love to take this class from you, and would be willing to drive just about anywhere you're teaching it. I bet you could easily fill a class both in Seattle and Portland.

Please let me know when you're ready for sign up-I'm very very interested.
