Holy Crap! I'm posting two days in a row- what's the world coming to? Nobody in the shop this week so lunch at my desk, that's what. Good thing the crew returns next week and I'll have somebody to talk to again! Then a new manager the following week, I think I'll really like working with her ( Read more... )

My take on Pergamenata annisa_1380 July 7 2009, 22:22:48 UTC
This is my first project using perg..., but so far I love it. It's not exactly like parchment, but it's a lot more like parchment than paper. I'm using rather thin, transparent walnut ink, and since it doesn't soak in, it doesn't bleed or end up blotchy. Instead, it pools in its little letter-shape, and the pigment tends to equalize as it slowly dries, so even multiple-stroke letters are nicely even. Also the ink and paint sit on the surface of the translucent sheet, which gives the impression of floating above it. Very pretty. Parchment also has these qualities, but the John Neal Bookseller parchment is too expensive for me to do every single project on it as I would like, especially as the price goes up nearly exponentially for larger sheets. The perg curls less with humidity fluctuations too.

*blush* thanks!
I'd love to hear about any and all parchment sources. I love using it (poor tasty sheeps), but can't afford the commercial stuff as often as I'd like. more sources = better!

I'm not arachnophobic, we have a catch-and-release policy around here, but you'd have to peel me off the ceiling if a spider came out of my pen! (Especially since my face is about 2 inches from my nib.)

Note to self, investigate spider-proof pen storage!

It took a few minutes and a hug from my lovely sweetie before I could write un-shakily again.
Will we see you at Coronation?

The pergamenata sounds like something I definitely want to try, your description makes it really appealing. (I'm not ready for parchment. :-)

Ulfred's classes are just starting this week, and he has an 8-12 class Saturdays. I'll likely daytrip to Coronation, he might or might not, depending on how hammered he is by the work. (He's getting some MS certifications.)
