Suicide and Spirituality

Jul 03, 2011 09:03

One of the traps I've seen some people fall into with regard to following a spiritual path is getting too caught up in the idea that it's all an illusion, a dream within God's mind, a cosmic game. While there is some truth to that, just about all of the spiritual paths (at least the ones with any apparent validity to them) also seem to say that we ( Read more... )

Thank you, Resa. I'm glad I can do/offer good stuff to folks even with all the crap going on in my life (and my heart & head) of late.

It seems to be a common theme with me at the moment too - living the human experience cos we are here on the plane - not any other. Its all well and good to be spiritual but it helps us as to where we are going with it. The old means to and end. What goals?

I was reading a bio on a medium and one of her stories that she came across was a family whose son killed himself as he was fixated with death and he wanted to see what it was all about. Can't remember what his spirit said once he was over there but i think it was reluctance for doing it.

Yeah, that's been a strong one for me, too. I think that's part of the trick, learning how to live a "human" life while also cultivating spirituality. Guess no-one every promised life'd be easy.

If you ever find that bio or a link to it, I'd be most interested to get to see it myself.

The medium I was talking about was Rose Altea - the book The Eagle and the Rose http://www.rosemaryaltea.com/bookstapes/eagle_rose.cfm A friend who has a medium talent lent me the book and it was an interesting read. It was one of her case studies towards the back of the book. But a book that I read recently about past lives really interested me (I've got a fascination about past lives - I have had regressions done before) Brian Weiss Many Lives, Many Masters.

Hey are you open at the moment to energies? I'm experiencing a lot of clairsentience atm. I know you've done reiki and would have had experiences of your own.

I'm kind of open to energy right now. It's sadly an inconsistent thing, as sometimes I'm too overwhelmed with other stuff to really be able to pick up on much. Anything in particular you're wanting to chat about?

I have always been one to jump in with both feet, and never one to be timid about doing anything. At the same time, I have been to the bottom and my spirituality was tested beyond realms... and the only time I really truly hit bottom was when I FORGOT my spiritual path and my reason for being here in the first place. Sometimes I think it is a combination of what you stated above and people forgetting about their spirituality that leads people to make this horrible choice. WE get soooo wrapped up in how we feel at that moment, we forget who we are, we focus on the emotion and not the placement of ourselves in a greater world.

Well written.

I would say you're right about the combination of factors that drive people to that kind of choice. It's hard to believe that it'd be anything simple that'd drive people to it; the thought we could be THAT fragile is frankly horrifying.

Thank you. :)

A great post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
As someone who tends to keep life and people at arms length, I need to be reminded of this...

Sorry for the late response. I had to sit with this one for a bit.

On March 3, 2003 (3-3-3), I had an intense spiritual experience, the kind that some people describe in which there was something like a white light and I was consumed with the presence of the Creator (of your choosing). I had hit a severe emotional low, and had no place to turn but to what I didn't understand at the time.

It was amazing. Because of that experience I understand why the Lakota use the term Wakan Tanka (the Great Incomprehensibility) to describe the Creator. I felt perfectly at peace--my fears, desires, and resentments fell from me. I had an unshakeable understanding that this life is an illusion, and that the true existence lies with our Creator in the Beyond ( ... )

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing the story of your experience. I'd heard you mention it before in passing, but I'd never heard the story. I also understand what you mean about using the experience. It's an easy trap to fall into, as I can say with lesser experiences I've had. It's not an end-all, be-all kind of thing; it's something to point the Way. We still have plenty of walkin' left to go.

As for self-esteem, I think your terms are dead-on. You need to feel OK about yourself to exist. However, if it's based on the ego, then it's going to be fleeting and unstable. However, if it's more based on knowing your true nature, the Divine that we all are, then as you said the external stuff doesn't matter. Knowing we are Divine means that the material stuff just doesn't matter in terms of being good enough. We don't need to have or do anything; we just ARE.

Sadly, I can relate to the point about knowing it and sometimes living it, but being able to do so consistently or constantly being another matter entirely.

Thanks again! :)
