flu shot

Nov 29, 2007 20:19

I went and got a flu shot today at lunchtime; never had one before.  Everything I read says it's more recommended for pregnant women.  Side effects if any are supposed to be mild and last only a couple of days.  I feel a lil less than swell now; think I'll go to bed early, for real.  Anyone else get a flu shot?

I hadn't had the flu in about a decade until I got knocked up...and it was a NASTY flu that took 2 weeks to get over. So yes, I got one this year by recommendation of my OB/GYN. I didn't have any side effects except for a sore shoulder around the shot area.

That's why I did NOT get it. It has a small bit of the actual Flu in it (duh right), but I know I get sick very easily and I rather not take that chance. I hated having the Flu when I wasn't pregnant so I can't imagine being 5 months pregnant with the Flu and not being able to take anything or eat...blah blah blah...it's just no good.

Hope you feel better though! :)

there's two types of flu shots, one with an active form of the virus and one without.

Pregnant women are not allowed to get the shot with the active form of the virus. If you get the one without, you will be fine.

It's my understanding that the mist has some live flu in it; so, that's not given to pregnant folks. What side effects I had thankfully seemed to be for only last night. Feel ok today, only slight soreness at location of shot on my left arm.

I got one today at lunch too. I was fine the rest of the day, even though I expected to feel like shit. My arm (left) hurts now and I'm wondering how I'm going to sleep on it, since I can't even lay down on the couch like I just tried to. :(

Other than that, I had no intention of getting one, but then reading about what CAN happen to a pregnant woman if she gets the flu, yeah no thanks. I've had enough complications, I'm all set.
