Is there such a thing as a non-secular organization that serves the same function as a church but without the whole deity thing?

I like the idea of having a community that meets regularly to support humanitarian efforts (and each other) and teach children not to be assholes.

If I were more ambitious I would totally start one.

I've been privately freaking out and publicly resenting the credit industry because my lack of a credit card means lack of a good credit score but my banker just signed me up for a card yesterday. I'm still bitter that this is a necessary step toward good credit, I don't particularly want a credit card but I do want to buy a house someday and this ( Read more... )

I was driving home from the grocery store this evening and "Poor unfortunate souls" played on my mp3 player and it made me all misty because when The Little Mermaid first came out Ursula reminded me of my grandma (in the looks, flamboyance, and voice department... not the evil sea witch and tentacles department)
