Fic: Eight Maids a-Milking; PG; Max/Danny

Dec 20, 2008 12:37

For Meg, who I hope is as amused at the thought of Danny being the maid a-milking as I am. Happy Holidays!

Danny patiently let Max continue his rant as he helped out the farmer. The cow, for her part, seemed to work better with him than anyone else anyway which was one reason why he’d taken the temporary job. The idea had been to get away from everything for the day, but Max had wanted to come with. Danny had been happy for it at first, but he just wanted to finish milking the cow before he did anything else. Taylor had mentioned that soaring with Yellow Eagle often helped her, so she’d suggested it to an anxious Danny with the warning that he should go alone.

He had to admit that he understood why she’d said that especially after he’d found that for the first time, his flowers weren’t giving him his needed rest. Listening to Max complain wasn’t helping him with relaxing that he was otherwise feeling. The cow gave out a slight snort and Danny absently petted her. “Max…”

“We could go bowling or…”

“Max…”

“Get everything ready for the party…”

“Max…”

“At least the tree is decorated, I guess…”

The cow let out an annoyed moo, though she didn’t move. It interrupted Max who turned to look at her, backing away a bit. Danny gently soothed her and looked at Max. “I thought you might want to know you’re scaring the cow.”

“Thanks,” Max said sarcastically. “Danny, are we done yet?”

“Not yet,” he said. “I finished the others, but she takes a bit longer. Then we can go back.”

Max plotted, swearing that he’d enlist Alyssa’s help in covering the ceiling with mistletoe. Danny didn’t need to go anywhere for a few days. Besides, he was pretty sure the cow was glaring at him again. Stupid cow. “I don’t see why we have to sit here while you spend all day milking a dumb cow.”

“I needed the money for your Christmas present,” Danny answered shyly. It was only a half lie. He did need money after buying Max’s present. “And I kind of like it. It’s relaxing.”

“Christmas present?” Max asked perking up. “Well, what are you waiting for? Hurry!”

“Okay, Max,” he answered, not really going any faster though he hoped Max would be more patient now. The cow glared at Max again, at least Max thought she was. Max was pretty sure he didn’t like the cow. It was in the way of him and Danny. Danny finally finished and went to give the milk to the farmer. Max looked at the cow. The cow looked at Max.

“He’s mine,” Max told her. The cow mooed and then ignored him. Max chased after Danny, determined to have a very Merry Christmas.
