When I think about prejudice and ableism, ( a few moments always come back to me. )

Egads. Humans. So much beauty and so much bullshit.

Glad you aren't so exhausted by both insensitivity and educating people that you can't continue to shine in all the ways you do.

"You're too young to be in a wheelchair" or "What are you playing at, I saw you get that out of your car! What are you, lazy?" are always good for a disdaining scowl and the overly patient tone one takes with a child, but a good quarter cup of irritation thrown in.

I prefer the children, really. They're honestly curious, rather than using questions to mask prejudice and pettiness.

Heck yes! I more meant that slightly patronizing tone a lot of people -associate- with talking to children, rather than how one actually does.

My first and only coherent thought is remembering meeting you at D*C a few years back, and it's:

You're beautiful.

Why, thank you, dear, and I return the compliment.

OMFG people can be such turds! I remember the times my deaf family members were treated like they were idiots just because they couldn't hear (I would have loved to see one of those jerks try to do a crossword puzzle as fast as my great-aunt could). And the stupidity we would encounter when we would go out with a former neighbor who is a paraplegic was appalling. We've even had patrons in the library tell us they didn't think patrons with mental disabilities should be allowed in the children's dept. even if when they are children (an autistic teen-ager was one of those complained about.)

I have a disabled cousin who grew to be an extremely bitter man because of the treatment he received while growing up. I am so glad that you did not let the assholes turn you into someone with an ugly spirit.

You never cease to amaze and inspire me.

I've always been a little silly that way. I put on a good facade of being cynical and jaded, but I've always thought I must secretly be an optimist since I keep butting my head against the wall.

I'd rather not, thanks. I have rather high standards for that.
