I had a great week in Mendoza. It's close to the Andes and Mt. Aconcagua near the Argentina/Chilean border. IT's also Argentine wine country. We rented bikes and biked between the vinyards for tours and tastings. We also went white water rafting, which was awesome. All and all it was a week of good food, good drink and no classes. This weekend was Pilson Rock, this big rock festival/concert in Durazno, a very small town in the middle of Uruguay. A bunch of friends got together and we hired a van and a driver to take us there and back since the bus system and trains are completely clogged with over 100,000 people trying to squeeze into this pinhole of a town ( Read more... )

Lately I have become obsessed with the news. I always read the news, more out of duty than pure interest, but lately, I just can't get enough. I download podcasts, spend hours reading stuff online, stalk the bbc and even watch some Uruguayan tv news...but I get really bored quickly, so usually not. This morning Sasha, the family pet, was crossing the streets of Montevideo and was hit by a vicious motorist. She fractured her pelvis and hurt her leg. She was drugged up all day. Today was a fairly typical day, and really how my life here should be like. Woke up. Had three hours of classes. Went and did boxing for an hour. This weekend some friends whisked me away to Atlantia, a town about an hour outside of Montevideo (It's also the place where that asian chick has her house in the movie Miami Vice...it's supposed to be outside of Havana).
