Hi everyone... I'm due to have a baby in the next month and I'm having trouble deciding on a sleeping arrangement. I want to have the baby in the room with us and very close to me for at least six months, but probably much longer than that. I would really, really like to co-sleep but my husband and I are both sleepwalkers and talkers and I won't ( Read more... )

With my baby, I used a Kolcroft bassinet from Target ($100) for the first two months. I was able to put it right next to the bed and it also had wheels, so I could just roll it into the bathroom while I showered and into my husband's office. I liked it because she was always near us even though she was sleeping so much as a newborn.

When she outgrew the bassinet (at about 10 weeks old), I switched to the smaller version of the Arm's Reach Cosleeper from their Little Palace Collection. The thin mattress wasn't a problem at all. I bought one of the discontinued colors on sale for about $120. I loved it! At about 6 months months of age she was pretty long for it and I felt better about co-sleeping. I put her in her crib (in our room) to sleep the first few hours of the night and after she wakes up she comes into our bed for the rest of the night.

I went around and around about sleeping arrangements when I was pregnant, but ended up doing something completely different. I wish someone had told me not to spend so much time worrying about it. Just follow your instincts and do whatever feels right. And that might change, often, and thats OK.

We had an Arm's Reach and LOVED it. I ordered a mattress from WalMart. I was so sad when my son outgrew his cosleeper.

My Aunt bought one of those Arms Reach ones and liked the idea but hated the design, so her husband built one from scratch, with better support and a more comfortable mattress. I don't know how crafty you and your Husband are, but building your own might be an option to look into.

Before my baby was born I thought we could never co sleep. I was known to attack any unsuspecting people who shared a bed with me. I've been co sleeping since almost day one, (she refused to sleep anywhere else from the start and I really needed some sleep) and I have yet to attack the baby. Just keep in mind that your sleeping habits change a lot after baby is born.

I also have a pack n play. I never had any sagging problems with it.
