“I really want to go to Japan!” Jaejoong declared. “It was like our second home but now it feels like a foreign country all over again. I should have tagged along with Jongyun but then again, if I had, I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to see you.” He spoke to Changmin. The three of them had an eventful morning. Starting off with Jaejoong vomit-fest, they had gone to the nearby beach for a walk and came home to an amazing breakfast prepared by Jaejoong. Now they were just lounging around the living room, chatting with each other and paying no mind to the television which was left on for a sole purpose of proving some form of background noise. Jaejoong was still engaged in a conversation with Changmin when his phone started to ring and Jongyun’s name flashed onto the screen.
“Hello, love!” Jaejoong answered the phone excitedly, he had just been talking about Japan and Jongyun when the phone had rung. He felt as though he was on cloud nine. Getting to spend time away from his hectic schedule with the people whom he had missed so much and with now his fiancé was ringing him up, everything felt perfect.
Well, almost.
“Jaejoong, where the heck are you?” Jongyun sounded frustrated and anxious causing an immediate plummet of the happy mood. Jaejoong’s smile drooped to a frown when he heard Jongyun’s irritated voice.
“In Busan…” Jaejoong answered uncertainly. Why would Jongyun want to know where he was since he himself was in Japan anyway? Though, a part of him told him that he should have informed Jongyun about arriving in Busan.
“What are you doing in bloody Busan?!” The anger in Jongyun’s voice continued to rise. “I land in Seoul expecting to find you and you’re miles away.”
“You’re back in Korea?!” Jaejoong asked. For a moment he forgot Jongyun’s anger as his own feelings shock became evident in his voice. “You weren’t coming back for another 3 days!”
“Yeah, well, plans changed.” Jongyun explained. “When are you coming back?”
“Tomorrow…?” Even Jaejoong wasn’t sure. This trip was all a surprise set up by Yunho so he had absolutely no clue when he would be done with the trip.
“Tomorrow?!” Jongyun yelled. “You know what, I’m coming to get you now so just text me the address.”
With that Jongyun cut the call. Jaejoong stared at his phone questioningly. Changmin and Yunho had been observing him throughout the phone conversation with a similar expression.
They knew he was speaking with Jongyun but wondered what had happened that cause Jaejoong’s mood to turn down completely.
“What happened?” Changmin broke the silence.
“I don’t know why but Jongyun sounded pissed and he said he was coming to get me back to Seoul.” Jaejoong said with a confused look on his face.
“Is something wrong?” Yunho probed.
“I don’t know…” He sighed. So much for everything being perfect. Jaejoong should really get more well acquainted with this feeling since every time he felt everything was going right, something wrong would definitely happen.
--
It took 8 hours for Jongyun to reach the villa. In those 8 hours, Yunho, Changmin and Jaejoong had spent quality time together with each other but it was slightly dampened due to the anticipation of Jongyun’s arrival. Jongyun stepped out of the car, feeling exhausted after a flight followed by 7 hours of continuous driving but he was determined to take Jaejoong back to Seoul. He walked up the villa and rang the doorbell. Why exactly would Jaejoong be staying in someone’s villa?
However, it was not Jaejoong who answered the door but a really tall young man whom Jongyun recognised as a member of DBSK.
“Oh, Jongyun-shi, welcome!” Changmin opened the door to let Jongyun in.
“Thank you, uh, Chang…” Jongyun couldn’t seem to recall the boyband member’s name despite having seen him on television numerous times.
“I’m Changmin.” Changmin extended his hand towards Jongyun. Jongyun grabbed it firmly into a shake.
“Lee Jongyun.” Jongyun replied. “Is Jaejoong in?”
“Yes, he’s actually cooking us dinner.” Changmin explained as he led Jongyun further into the villa and into the living room.
“Oh! Jongyun-shi, you’re here.” Jongyun was greeted by another DBSK member yet again. But this time, he knew who it was.
“Yunho-shi, surprised to see you here.” Jongyun said. Jongyun honestly did not know what was going on. Since when did Jaejoong start hanging out with his ex-bandmates again? Since when did he and Yunho go back to being on friendly terms with other?
“Jongyun?” Jaejoong’s voice came from the kitchen. He wiped his hands on a towel and made his way to the living room where the 3 men were gathered.
“You’re back!” Jaejoong let out a big smile and went towards Jongyun to grab him into a hug. Jongyun hugged back but his actions were stiff.
“You haven’t been online have you?” Jongyun asked abruptly. No hello, no how are you, no I missed you. Just an odd question. Jaejoong separated from Jongyun and gave him a confused look. Why would Jongyun ask him that?
“No why…?” Jaejoong asked, wondering what Jongyun was getting at.
“It’s nothing. I’ll explain later.” Jongyun said as he grabbed Jaejoong by the hand. “Let’s go.”
“But wait!” Jaejoong protested, he was still wearing the newly bought apron which he had been using to cook a meal for all 4 of them. “I was cooking dinner for all of us.”
“I’m sorry, Yunho-shi and Changmin-shi, Jaejoong and I have to leave.” Jongyun apologized to Yunho and Changmin ignoring Jaejoong’s protest. “I promise we’ll have dinner together some day to make up for this.”
Before Changmin and Yunho could even voice their own opinions, Jongyun had dragged Jaejoong away from the living room and right out of the door. All the tall duo could do was stare dumbly at the departing couple and wonder what the heck was going on?
--
“What was that all about?!” Jaejoong asked angrily as the two sat in the car which was zooming off towards Seoul. He was seething. Here he was thinking that he would prepare a lovely dinner for the 4 of them especially since Jongyun was returning from overseas but Jongyun had dashed all those hopes Jaejoong had.
“Something happened in Japan.” Jongyun explained vaguely but the statement had paused Jaejoong from continuing his rant as he looked at Jongyun expectantly, hoping he’ll elaborate.
“I wanted to get to you before you got a whiff of it.” Jongyun said, hoping that it would explain why had dragged Jaejoong away from the villa.
“What happened, Jongyun?” Jaejoong asked his anger now completely replaced by worry.
“Well, while I was Japan, we attended some parties and some tabloids saw me leaving the house with Ueno Juri.” Jongyun explained. “And they blew up the matter but honestly, nothing happened, Jae! I just went over for a drink.” He clarified.
“Wha…?” Jaejoong needed some time to comprehend this. First of all what was Jongyun doing with Ueno Juri? Jaejoong had worked with the actress once but he didn’t know the two were friends. Secondly, why would Jongyun think he would get angry over a stupid tabloid? All they knew was how to make a mountain out of a molehill. Even Jaejoong had been through his fair share of crap from them.
Out of a sudden, Jaejoong laughed. Jongyun stared at him as if he had grown another head. Wasn’t he supposed to be angry? Why was he laughing instead?
“Did you…hahaha…really think I’ll get mad over a stupid tabloid? Hahaha!” Jaejoong wheezed, clutching his stomach because he was laughing so hard. Did you Jongyun really shorten his trip and travel all the way to Busan to explain this to him?
“You aren’t?” Jongyun asked. He was still looking at Jaejoong for another unexpected response. Perhaps he would be angry after laughing at the situation.
“Jongyun, I think you’re forgetting that you currently the fiancé of a celebrity. A celebrity with at least some brains.” Jaejoong explained once he calmed down a little. “I have been through crap like this too and I’m not one of your stupid model girlfriends who would get mad over something that isn’t even true and completely made up for attention.”
“Yes! It’s completely false and made up to taint our relationship.” Jongyun exclaimed.
“I know that, honey.” Jaejoong smiled at how cute Jongyun was being, getting so flustered over a stupid tabloid.
“You know that I love you right?” Jongyun asked. Jaejoong nodded his head in affirmation and leaned over to give Jongyun a kiss.
“I love you too, you goofy idiot.” Jaejoong chuckled.
“By the way, how do you know Ueno Juri?” Jaejoong asked. He completely forgot to ask Jongyun that when he had first heard about the tabloid.
“Oh…we met at uhhhh party as I was saying.” Jongyun seemed to have gotten caught off guard with the question. “Then she asked a couple of other people and I for a drink at her place.”
"Oh.” Jaejoong nodded. “Well, let’s just forget about this incident alright? I’m just so glad you’re home. I was starting to miss you.”
“Oh did you?” Jongyun teased with mischief colouring his eyes. “Well, I will show you how much I missed you tonight then.”
--
“Do you think Jae hyung is alright? Jongyun-shi looked quite mad when he came over.” Changmin observed.
Yunho face had been contorted with worry ever since Jongyun had arrived and taken Jaejoong with him. Something felt off about the situation. Why would he come barging in and take Jaejoong so forcefully back with him? He felt concerned for Jaejoong’s safety
“Jae will be fine. He should know how to handle his own fiancé.” Yunho finally answered. “I will ask him about it on Monday at work.”
Changmin nodded. Just when things were going great…
--
Monday came soon enough. The weekend was over before they even realized. Jaejoong had ended up spending the entire Sunday in Jongyun’s arms. He wondered if a week’s separation could bring such intense loving from Jongyun, what would happen if they stayed away from each other longer than that. Jongyun had been just a little more affectionate, a little more caring and just a little more teasing. Jaejoong on the other hand soaked up all the attention that Jongyun was bestowing upon him.
“Jongyun, I’m going to clear your bag alright?” Jaejoong said from the living room where Jongyun’s luggage was haphazardly laying around. He received an okay from the kitchen where Jongyun was preparing breakfast for them.
Jongyun wasn’t the best packer around town as the bag nearly burst open when Jaejoong opened it. It reminded him of Yunho who couldn’t tidy his bag either no matter how much traveling they had to do. Jongyun’s t-shirts and jeans were literally stuffed into the bag. Apparently folding your clothes wasn’t existent in Jongyun’s dictionary. Jaejoong started to take out the dirty clothes one by one, putting them in two piles - wash or dry clean. It was then Jaejoong found a stain on one of Jongyun’s dress shirts. It faintly reminded him of a lipstick mark.
Lipstick? Suddenly their conversation on the tabloid ran through Jaejoong’s head again. Could it be true…? Jaejoong shook his head. Jongyun had put in so much effort into clearing the situation, making sure that Jaejoong did not get upset over it. It couldn’t be true.
“Babe.” Jongyun grabbed him from behind. Jaejoong dropped the shirt unceremoniously into one of the piles. “Breakfast is ready.”
“Oh…thanks.” Jaejoong said as he turned around in Jongyun’s embrace. Jongyun smiled down at him and planted a quick kiss on his lips.
“Let’s go eat breakfast before I end up eating you instead.” Jongyun joked but led them towards the dining table anyway. And just like that Jaejoong forgot about the stupid suspicions he had been having.
--
Ever since Jaejoong had stepped into the set, everyone had been giving him pitied and empathetic looks. Did he dress wrongly today? Did he somehow look different? Well, other than ever growing bump which at 4 months was no longer considered tiny, he did not think anything else was different about him.
“Oh Jae…” Yunho came over to him and hugged him tight. “I saw the news.”
“What news?” Jaejoong as he stood in Yunho’s one-sided embrace.
Yunho separated from him and get him an incredulous look. “The one about Jongyun shi and Ueno Juri…?” He tried to remind Jaejoong of the not so small news.
“Oh that.” Jaejoong sighed with relief. He had started to think that he was missing out on something. “It’s fake. Jongyun and I talked about it.”
“Oh.” Yunho said, with slight disappointed in his voice that only those with keen ear would be able hear. “Tea?” He passed a cup to Jaejoong.
“Thanks. “ Jaejoong was thankfully for having something warm to drink. He had been having abdominal aches since he woke up this morning.
The script director came over to the two and instructed them which scenes they were going to shoot today. It seems that Kyungsam and Do Hoon were going to get surprised by Choi Hyun’s new condition.
--
Jaejoong let out a sigh of relief as he finally got to sit down after shooting for 3 hours consecutively. Not only was the shoot wearing him out, the endless questions about Jongyun and his relationship after the tabloid release were tiring him as well. This much stress was definitely not good for him and that baby. Jaejoong caressed his bump absentmindedly, a habit he had developed over the months. Whenever, he was feeling down or upset, his hand would automatically come to rest upon his abdomen. Today seemed like one of those days where he just couldn’t catch a break. If he was not busy reciting his lines in front of the camera, he would be getting reminded of false rumours surrounding Jongyun. Finding that lipstick mark that morning wasn’t helping Jaejoong reassure himself or everyone else that indeed that rumours were untrue. Worry was starting to gnaw at him but he had reminded himself that Jongyun would never do that to him, especially not since he was carrying their child. He trusted Jongyun and suspecting him would bring nothing but misery to himself. All these confusing emotions together with these constant abdomen aches were not helping him in staying calm.
“You know if you frown any further, you’re gonna develop wrinkles before the baby is born.” An unexpected but all too familiar voice nagged at him. Jaejoong looked up to the smiley face of his best friend.
“Yoochun-ah!” Jaejoong jumped up to hug his best friend whom he hadn’t seen and talked to over the entire weekend. Once you start spending so much time with one another that even a small weekend seems like a long time.
Yoochun handed him a hot drink and sat down next his soul mate. “I’m hurt, Jae. I thought you told me everything. So trouble in paradise?”
Jaejoong looked up at Yoochun. That man was on internet too much for his own good. “The rumors are fake. Nothing happened between Jongyun and that actress.”
“That actress?” Yoochun questioned. “I thought she was your friend.” Yoochun recognised her instantly when he had seen the news. She the one of the Jaejoong’s cast member in the only Japanese drama Jaejoong had taken on.
“Yeah, whatever.” Jaejoong snorted.
“So you’re jealous despite knowing that the rumor is fake.” Yoochun observed, smirking to himself at how easily he had figured Jaejoong out.
“Yoochun!” Jaejoong warned. His best friend sometimes was too cheeky. Jaejoong could be cheeky when he wanted to be but he hated when Yoochun got too playful with him.
Yoochun laughed but did not press on the matter.
“Jaejoongie!” Another person came forward to where Jaejoong was sitting with Yoochun. “I have got rewrites for the next scene…” The voice trailed off and paused before saying. “Yoochun…?”
For the first time in so many years, Yoochun finally saw his ex-leader face to face. Yoochun stood up and greeted Yunho awkwardly. It was indefinitely awkward considering the time that had passed.
“How are you doing, Yoochun?” Yunho asked.
“Well.” Yoochun replied. Yoochun had no idea what to say because funny enough he had 3 years of pent up frustration that he wanted to talk about. He just didn’t know where to begin. If he had known he would encounter Yunho on set as well, he would have come prepared with a list of topic openers.
Yunho also didn’t know where to begin, he had been expecting to see Yoochun but not so soon. He realized that he had been staring at his ex bandmate for quite some time, soaking in all the changes that had taken place in the man in front of him over the years. The tension in the room was becoming palpable. Yunho looked away and passed Jaejoong his script. Jaejoong got up from his seat hoping that he could be the bridge between the two and get the two to be on better terms with each other. He knew both of them wanted to renew their friendships with each other but they didn’t know where to start.
But before he could speak and dissolve some of the tension, the ache in his tummy that had been there since morning came as a sharp twinge. Jaejoong grasped and grabbed his bump. The doctor had said that he would experience aches in his second trimester as his belly grew but this pain felt different. It was sharp and felt like a cramp. Yunho and Yoochun looked at him with worried expressions.
“Are you okay?” Yoochun asked as he grabbed Jaejoong’s arm and made him sit back on his seat. Jaejoong nodded in reply but continued holding onto his belly. The sharp pain came once again and he let out a pained moan at that.
“You’re not okay.” Yunho stated. “What’s wrong?” Yunho also crouched next to Jaejoong, holding his other hand in comfort.
“Hurts…” Jaejoong hissed as he continued to cradle his 4 month bump.
“We need to get you to the doctor’s!” Yunho exclaimed and got up from his position ready to carry Jaejoong wherever he commanded.
“No…” Jaejoong whimpered. “It’ll pass. The doctors said I will experience abdominal aches.”
“Jae…this seems more than just aches.” Yoochun observed. His best friend had started loose colour on his face as sweat started to form on his brows. He was almost trembling from intensity of the pain.
Jaejoong groaned again and this time lurched forward in a fail attempt to prevent the cramping. It was then he felt something sticky between his legs. Jaejoong’s eyes widen as the realization drawled upon him. Was he…bleeding? Jaejoong started breathing heavy on the verge of a panic attack. No…no…no…this cannot be happening.
“Jae!” Yunho reached out for Jaejoong’s face who was hyperventilating.
Jaejoong turned to look at Yunho with watery eyes. “I’m bleeding.”
Yunho and Yoochun are left stunned for a moment as they looked at each other as to how to react. Bleeding…? They hoped it didn’t mean what they thought it meant. Yunho shook himself out of the stupor and waste no time in taking Jaejoong into his arms.
“Yoochun, get the car!” And that was an order from their leader.
