So I read a short story by Spahic (Montenegro) in the 2011 edition of Best European Fiction.  The title is Raymond is No Longer With Us-Carver is Dead and it's good stuff.  So I find that, unlike many of the other authors in the collection, he actually has a novel, Hansen's Children, translated into English.  I order online and burn through it in a ( Read more... )

Yesterday morning I was in Breugger's Bagels getting coffee when I noticed this dignified looking old man (in his seventies), glasses, big mustache, reading a beat up copy of Catcher in the Rye.  Based on the cover it looked like a print from the sixties and I imagined him pulling it off his bookshelf, vaguely remembering that he had liked it once ( Read more... )
