So many people in this world never find their own identity. Even fewer put it out there and expose it to the world if they find it isn't a cookie-cutter model after all. I know from having watched a few friends go through this how difficult and frustrating it can be even in terms of paperwork wrangling... and that can't possibly hold a candle to the personal struggle in accepting, understanding, and declaring it for the world to Deal With. Go you, and best of luck along the way.
the paperwork wrangle was the second hurdle - the first being coming out to my family.
surprisingly (or maybe not) they've all been very supportive, even my mother, whom I expected to have at least hysterics over the very idea.
the next big thing is going on to the next stage in physical transition, which should help with sorting out people's reactions to me IRL.
making the decision, and letting people know about the decision, have actually helped me a lot in regards to coming to terms with it. :-) Mostly because I have such wonderful and supportive friends.

I found griffen through dewhitton's LJ friendslist, which I used to read a lot at work.
I'll have to add him to my friendslist again. :-)
