Just reading the Jon Snow chapter on George R.R. Martin's site--so presumably this happens before anything in the last book? I know they were going to be interwoven but it feels awkward to be going back before the last book started with this one.

I'm worried that I'm going to run out of patience before GRRM runs out of story.

So I was re-reading The Lord of the Rings the other day (really, the other several days) and I'm interested in who people think the story is really primarily meant to be about--understanding that it's about all of these characters and more, but whose story is the "core" of the books, however the individual cares to define that?
