I know what you mean about pitocin! When I was induced with Kyle, I was in so much pain, I threatened my doctor that I was going to go out and buy a gun and come back and shoot him if he didn't come back into the room without the anesthesiologist! LOL. And it's funny too because I don't even remember screaming that to him. But everyone told me that I did. So I was pretty dilirious. LOL. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Hi, I'm a friend of woolybear, and I was just looking at her friends list, and found this post from you. I wanted to let you know that I got induced with my son who is four months old, but not with pitocin. I got induced with something called cervadill (sp? I'm spelling it how it sounds). It is much, much easier than pitocin. It sort of nudges you into labor and then it can happen more naturally. I actually got through my entire labor and delivery without any epidural -- that's how natural it was. I ended up having to have pitosin at the very end, and that was hell, but I was only on it for about a half hour, and then the baby was there. If I were you, I'd talk to your doctor about the possibility of cervadill. It worked great for me. Either way -- good luck with your baby. And sorry to sort of barge in here, not being on your friends list and all, but I just thought I'd let you know that there are other options other than pitocin. It's just that docs don't mention it all the time because so many people get epidurals, that they figure

Hey Marcia - You're not barging in - it's all good. I've read some of your posts too (seen you on Gardner and Stefanko's friend lists) and can't remember if we ever met or not... Probably ;) I looked it up online and you were really close on spelling - it's cervidil and when I meet with my doctor tomorrow I'm going to ask him about it.
The reason I would want an epidural if I have pitocin again is because with my daughter I had 6 hours of terrible pain just because I really wanted to have a 'natural' birth - I got to the point that I gave in and got the epidural and she was born in about an hour because it relaxed me so much. With my son I didn't have time for an epidural and he was a few days early so I had two completely different labors for two very different kids - ha.

I totally don't blame you for wanting an epidural if you get pitocin. If I had been on it for longer than a half hour, I wouldn't have been able to make it. It was misery, pure and simple. And you know, it's not like anyone gives you a badge for getting through labor without drugs (or with drugs, either!). I mean, heck, labor is just one day (usually) -- being a mom is a lot more work than that! And I just have one kid! The main point is to get through it so you can give that new baby a ton of hugs and kisses! But I just thought that if you do end up getting induced, it's good to know that there's another way besides pitocin that will let things build gradually instead of feeling like your whole body is being run over by a Mac truck. I highly recommend the cervidil!! But either way, good luck. There's still a chance he could come on his own. :-)
