last days of holiday
I went up with my parents to our mountain house over the weekend. Due to different reasons I haven't been able to go there for a couple of years. Now when I went up there I realize how much I miss it, I really need to get up there more. Enjoying some time off
So, I'm having my first proper vacation since I started having a summer job. It's great being able to actually have three weeks off. Still one week to go until I need to be back at work, and my plans for that is to get things done on the travel gown and I also need to go with my parents up to our mountain house to paint the new outhouse.

First sign of progress
So, here's the first sign of progress on the travel gown. My feelings for my stays are very mixed. On one hand I'm very satisfied with how I handled the fabric and the overall look of them, on the other hand they are too big. They close fully in the back, and I don't really feel that I'm cinching them. Now I know stays aren't doing the same cinch ( Read more... ) -
petticoat, yay!
So my travelgown is really going along in a snailing pace. I guess with the deadline so far away (3D premiere) I just don't get the spirit to sew for long stretches of time. (not that I'm a fast sewer in the first place. Anyway I've added the last of the white ruffles to the petticoat. I want one more row of ruffles for the bottom, but I want to ( Read more... ) -
Results from the weekend
I think I have the basic foundation for my corset worked out. I'm also pretty sure that I've managed to make it too big. :( I feel pretty confident in making 19thC corsets, but not all so when it comes to 18thC. It's not going to be a masterpiece, but it is my first try, and since I plan on just wearing it under the travel gown I hope that it will ( Read more... ) -
progress? or at least a start
So I think I might have something that I could use to make the corset for the travel gown. I'm going to use an 18th century pair of stays, since I think that would give the best flat front silhouette. I also want to use properly boned underwear since I want to get a really snug fit of the bodice, and I am a lot curvier than Natalie Portman was as a ( Read more... ) -

When I got home the fabric test swatch that I had ordered was there for me, and it's a very good colour match. It could have been a notch more red in it, but I don't think I will be able to decide on a closer match. That means that I can get it for £14.95 instead of £17.95, and there is no 10 meter minimum for the order. Since I don't know how much ( Read more... ) -
accomplished weekend
I've cleaned my whole apartment, and those of you who know how messy it can be, you also know that it's quite an achievement. I went over every surface with water and soap, the only thing I need to make it perfect is to go another round with the vacuum cleaner. Time to start planning.
The dates are perfect for me, since May and July are the busiest months at work, so I'm always asked to have my vacation in the end of August.
