Ok, I've decided that this isn't fair. 1/3 of my friends got to go to Pennsic, for at least some part of it, 1/3 got to go to Convergance in a city that I know pretty well, and 1/3 are getting to go to Gen Con and/or Burning Man. And what do I get to do? I get to stay home, be really broke, and work a lot. F*ck this. *grump

Job satisfaction, in the long run, is worth a lot more than money. Granted, enough money to pay all the bills (with hopefully some left over for emergencies/future plans/etc/) doesn't hurt, and good health insurance is a bonus too.
I could be out in industry, and make (so they tell me) a lot more money. But I wouldn't be having nearly as much fun. I probably also wouldn't have my own (sort of) foundry, machine shop, welding lab, computer lab, etc.

Plus, it was reported that the cook was very good where we were.
Next year though, we plan on having sufficient Friendly Hot Chicks "that even royals will precess by to tell us that we suck".
