Pre-Diabetes. Hemoglobin A1C is 5.9% .2% away from the Diabetes threshold.

So, no meds. Eat right and exercise, lose 20lbs and things should be better.

Piece of cake. Oh wait - no cake.

Easy as pie - No, no pie either.

Simple as un-buttered popcorn. Yum.

Welcome to the world of brown rice, my man. I hope you're able to keep it down and not need meds.

*sigh* Well, it could be worse.

My brother-in-law has had a lot of luck losing weight on a low-carb diet. It's not exactly Atkins; it's more a case of just trying to keep the carbs down to some reasonable level.

Of course, I like carbs.

Hang in there. With careful planning, it is possible, occasionally, to indulge in sugars - modest amounts (er, read that as tiny), in the context of a good protein meal, for example.

Plus, there are a number of artificial and alternative sweeteners out there which may help when you really want something sweet, but don't want to blow the glucose levels.

What were your symptoms, if I might ask? I've been suspecting blood sugar problems in myself for years....but don't know what to watch for.

Tired, feeling dehydrated and going to the restroom a lot when your sugar levels are above where they should be. You might also have some blurred vision and head aches. Light headed/dizziness and weakness when your sugars drop below the normal levels.
