When my aunts and dad went to my grandparents home to empty it out for sale they found masking tape on the bottom of many objects with a name on them. If a cousin had once admired a particular tea cup in the collection her name was on the bottom. Someone had like a picture on the wall, their name was on the back. It was sweet, and made some things much easier.

Each of my parents were executors for their parents. It's such a hard thing to do and more work than anyone realizes. I'm glad you were able to get through it and make your peace.

That was very sweet. I'm sure it made things easier. Sometimes death brings out the worst in people. They turn into vultures. Thanks so much for reading!

Human nature is so frivolous sometimes. People place value on things that are worthless, and ignore the very treasures that they should be focused upon. It's good to have settled the business and to be able to move beyond it, though. And really, the memories you have have already outlasted the structure of the edifice.

I actually grew to hate that house. That's why I was very willing to let my attorney handle the final closing and I didn't even have to deal with it any more. It was worth the money. Thanks so much for your comment.

It is often the case that many people know what you 'should' do but none of them want to help with the actual work of such things. I'm sorry you were in the center of it.

I'm just happy it's all finished and I don't have to deal anymore. Thanks for your comment! Hugs!

That sounds very tough. The house that I live in now was sold to me by three brothers who were raised in it. They put it on the market after their mom died, and I could see that one of the brothers, was really attached and handled most of the work of the transaction. He told me all about several recent improvements and cried at the closing. I like to think he still drives by occasionally, happy to see the kids' playset and bikes as evidence of a new family growing here. Despite the tough essnof the experience, this was a delightful read.

I do hope that the people who bought the house are happy and enjoying it. I'm glad you are enjoying your home and who knows? Maybe the brother does come by. Thanks for your comment and for reading!

Truth! Everyone has an opinion about how to do it, but when it comes to actually doing it they vanish into thin air. So sorry you and your husband had to go through it on your own. Your last line says it all.

Great read!

I don't know what I would have done without my husband. He worked really really hard to keep up the house while it was on the market and cleaning it out. I'm glad it's over.
thanks so much for reading!
