Getting Older

Jul 05, 2008 15:01

I had a hip joint replaced back in January. The surgery went very well, and I can walk now without that awful stabbing pain in my groin, but it's definitely a sign that my body is starting to wear out.

I just got another wake-up call today. My mother, who firehair28 and I were going to meet in Ashland, OR next week to experience the Ashland Shakespeare ( Read more... )

Awk! Shit shit shit shit shit!

I'm glad she's not seriously hurt, relatively speaking, but OH. I'm so sorry she's hurt, and I'm not happy at ALL that she's going to miss the trip.

Are you sure you don't want to ditch Ashland and head south to visit her? You know I'm perfectly happy to do anything at all, so long as it's with the folks I love.

I'll try and catch you tonight. I'll be home.

As we discussed this afternoon, she wants us to have this trip she planned so carefully, even though she can't come. I called my boss and arranged to have all of next week off as well as the following week, so I am going down there tomorrow. We'll call you tomorrow night, if you like, and we can all talk about it, but I know this is what she wants. Looking forward SO MUCH to seeing you on Thursday!

It's really lovely that you're able to focus on enjoying the time you do have with your mother.

Thank you. We had some very bad years when I was growing up, and are still making up for lost time. Last year's trip was a total blast, and if it was the last one, it was a really good one. Going down to see her tomorrow for a few days.

I was wondering how you were doing. A new hip! Will you need to get the other side done, too?

Any chance you'll be coming up this winter to storm watch? I think of you every winter now, when the winds howl.

Oh, don't I wish I could come up there for winter storms! Not sure I'll have the time or money this year or next spring, but I'll work on it. Would definitely love to see both of you and all the improvements you've made since I was last there!

The new hip is just peachy, and the other side is in excellent shape. I'll prove it by tramping all over your property next time I come up there, while you show me the sights. Best to you and to Tim!

I'm glad that you're going. I understand completely not having that relationship with your mother (I always envied you and Fi, before finally starting to be friends with my mom about a year or so ago, and still do) and wanting to make the most of the time you have left (which might very well be a long time). Enjoy it, you have my love, and we'll see you soon.
