Does anyone else think it's insane that some parents don't want their daughters to have the HPV/cervical cancer vaccine because they don't want to have a sex talk with your 10 year old? Also, stupid woman on Oprah, your daughter wont think that they're free to have unprotected sex if you actually talk to them about the risks involved in having sex ( Read more... )

And of course, when the kids DON'T have all the facts, then the parents blame the schools for not teaching them.

Which makes me sick. You want your kid to know stuff? YOU tell them!! Teachers ain't there to tell your little one that there is no such thing as Santa Claus, ffs!

It makes me so angry. Yeah, like ANY religion will protect you from getting HPV, which is the reason being cited by some parents not vaccinating their daughters. Unless these girls never have sex EVER in their whole lives, there is still a risk. It makes me sick some parents would rather let their daughter be at risk of getting cervical cancer.

Thing is, I would put money on if it were boys being targetted for these vaccines, these same parents would be letting the boys get vaccinated - it's alright for boys to go around shagging everyone.

I don't understand either. As soon as the vaccine was officially released, I looked at Josh, and said "Madi's getting that". He shrugged, and said "that area, you make the decisions". He's not against it though, because it's a preventative that could possibly save her life in the future. Parents don't seem to realize, and are more worried about having to talk to their kids about it. FFS, just say "you've gotta get a shot, honey." just like you would for any other vaccine. O.o

Many people choose not to use any vaccationations at all for a varity of reasons. Among those is that the FDA here in the US has a history of rushing new drugs onto the market place resulting in death.

I myself loath the goverment telling me I have to put this into my body or my child's ( ... )

I think you've nailed the root of it all on the head.

I know that my misgivings about the vaccine are more along the lines of I don't really fully trust the FDA as to whether this is safe and it makes me uncomfortable that the government wants to make this a required vaccine so quickly.

But misgivings aside, I have a hard time understanding why some people see this vaccine as being any different than the others just because it's for an STD. Just because your daughter is given the vaccine doesn't mean that you've given her the green light to be sexual promiscious... I mean crikey, how many STDs are there NOT vaccines for. It's still dangerous.

But I think the root of the entire issue is the fact that some parents just simply don't want to deal with giving their children the sex talk and they think if they just don't talk about it, it will all go away. The reality is that it doesn't...
