Awhile. AWHILE! A while. Alot, a lot.

Ok.

These are ok:
"I've been here awhile." "I've been here for a while."
"I like that a lot."

These are not ok:
"I've been here for awhile."
"I like that alot."

Also, awhile means for a while, so you wouldn't say "I did that awhile ago."

However, fuck stodgy grammar.

wow -- i didn't know that about "awhile". i've heard it and said it, but never really thought about it or used it in writing. and "alot" bugs me, too. putting "awhile" and "alot" together the way you did here helps me understand where "alot" comes from. neat! thanks ( ... )

Dang. I had no idea.

Bursting with juice and derring-do, the minuscule cherise flooded my senses with tasty delight. I nearly split my buttonholds with pleasure, disdaining the poor, shamefast pease in favor of the sweeter treat.

Hmm. That is definately one of the weirder sentences I have ever written.
