But I just wanted to remind everyone it's the last day to see Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog, which is extremely awesome. Who knew Doogie Howser could sing?
It's hard to imagine, but I have two friends that didn't find Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog all that funny, one of whom not even finishing it. I guess there's no accounting for taste ...
In many ways I enjoyed the concept more than the execution - there was a few especially good songs, some great concepts at work, and Dr. Horrible himself had a great delivery. On the other hand, the ending was classic Whedon, and a pretty disappointing conclusion to a pretty good show.
But I'm still glad I saw it - so thanks, Beguine! People had been talking about it for days, but your post was the only one to mention the time limit, which actually got me to go and see it. :P
I think he might be referring to the fact that Whedon is not so big on happy couples, and once Penny finally said "Argh I can't take it anymore! I don't care if everyone says he's the greatest thing since frozen yoghurt, he's a complete ass and I'd rather date Billy!" she was doomed.
On the other hand, I think here the ending is appropriate in the classical tragedy mode. When Wushi saw it he remarked "the price of what you want is what you love," and I think that's what's going on here. Penny only met Captain Hammer because Dr. Horrible chose to go with his plan instead of talking to her (not that it would be fair for him to anticipate the result), and she died because Dr. Horrible (and also Captain Hammer) chose to use deadly force.

What do you mean by "classic Whedon?"
