Trader Joe's wine post: Blason de Bourgogne pinot noir 2007

Jun 17, 2009 21:24

Price paid ~ $8

As the pretentious name indicates, this is French wine. Why someone chose to import it is beyond me.

Avoid this wine at all costs. Foul and watery, I can't finish my glass, let alone the bottle. Time to find something else to rid my mouth of the taste.

Is it tainted? Or is it just bad?

Not tainted, just bad.

It's sour and acidic, but above all extremely watery for a pinot. The wine itself is about the shade of a rose, not a red.

:( Can you try to reduce it for use as a glaze? Shouldn't be too syrupy...

That's a thought--sangria was another--fruit juice could only improve it, although it might be a waste of good fruit juice. :D

Babe, I think there's a small beef roast in the freezer. If you throw in the bottle of wine, the roast and some veggies, you should have a yummy dinner!

Trader Joe's 'Reserve' 2006 Petit Verdot (grown in Paso Robles)

I think it was $10; maybe a little pricey, but I was pleasantly surprised, since I don't expect much from TJ's branded wines.

I remember talking to a vintner in Paso Robles once about TJ branded wines, and it turns out that those wines are typically ones that just didn't quite make the standard of their original label. Sometimes that means they are way off the mark, but often they are still quite drinkable.

I think the point of the TJ wine reviews was specifically to review TJ wine's (he mentioned that a few weeks back). I can confirm that he doesn't GENERALLY drink TJ wine ;->

LOL. Yeah, as jmpava mentions, I normally don't drink TJs wine. With A gone, I'm less tempted to open better bottles when I want something to drown my sorrows. Frankly, I'm more likely to crack a beer since most of the Washington-area microbreweries are substantially better than the <$10 TJs wine.

However, I'm still hoping against hope that I'll find a palatable discount wine at TJs.....
