Fuck People Who Tell You to #FuckPlanB

First order of business: my birthday was awesome & I was shocked (to the point of a few tears) at how many people were sharing links to my art and buying prints from my webstore ( Read more... )

Oh hells yes.

Going for Plan A with all your might does not mean you should completely ignore the reality that you will need to eat, drink and live somewhere. Plan A by night, in your spare time etc, does not mean you have given up, it means you have the tenacity to stick with it when it's not not working perfectly.

Mind if I follow you?

Follow away! I can't always follow back but I regularly check in with folks who are inclined to have discussions (and arguments) with me. ;)

And very good point--- tenacity is the tipping point, even if you keep your Plan B until Plan A starts paying the bills.

Thank you Beth.

I've been seeing this all day and it's been pissing me off. Yeah, I'm sure there's always something that we *want* to do. I'd love to be touring all year but that doesn't pay the bills. So I do it on nights and weekends. And when I've expressed that to some of these people, they've labelled me as a sellout and not dedicated enough.

Sick of this bullshit.

Thank you for saying that in a polite yet forceful, and well spoken manner.

I've often felt like I've been living on PlanB for so long that I can't even figure out what PlanA is anymore. Thanks for giving me something to point folks to when they get to be too much.

I am literally standing up and applauding you right now. I know a lot of artists -- talented and, ahem, otherwise -- who look down their nose at my because I work a "regular job" to make sure the mortgage gets paid. I make the time to write for myself, to create for myself, to let the real stuff get out and get on paper, and I still plan to do something with it all. But in the meantime? I have a roof. Food. My pets are cared for. I can afford medication when I am ill. Mom and dad don't pay my bills -- they can't. So I have to. And I am TIRED of being considered "less than" by people who were lucky enough to have someone else foot the bill while they followed their bliss.

Standing ovation from my bedroom. Seriously. Thank you, more than you will ever know.
