Went to the football on Saturday....Australian Rules - pig-skin oval shaped ball, 4 big goal sticks and 4 little ones, heaps of contact and quite a few cute bums in tight shorts!! Went with my Dad which is always fun because he is fairly loud and raucous in a very refined, school-principal way. We ate pies with sauce and had a pint of West End ( Read more... )

I saw something on the TV the other day bemoaning the end of the football culture in Melbourne of all places. With the sport becoming so national and a lot of interstate games being played, the number of ovals being in regular use now numbers only 2. It is also becoming increasingly expensive when before it was free.

This of course ignores the fact that we still do have a VFL - albeit smaller and not as well supported. For me though that is an advantage if I think about taking my kids along to the footy. I think I perfer a smaller, more intimate setting, it's cheaper (maybe free?) and Werribee has its own team which is doing pretty damn well which would resolve the football politics at work within our household. B barracks for Essendon - though less enthusiastically now they're not top it must be said - and I barrack for Carlton. I have to go Carlton, John Elliot notwithstanding, as it has been in our family for 4 generations.. five if Kahlil makes the right choice!

See, I think the tradition is alive and well. I am a Port Power supporter for a bizaare set of reasons that frequently bemuse and amuse friends given that I live in traditionally Chardonnay-sipping Crows territory ( ... )

Now that's a real football memory! I went with my aunty, uncle and cousin after speding the night at their house. But probably my favourite memories are all the grand finals parties I went to at friends places. Even though I haven't been much of a fan as an adult, I'd always get right into the spirit with a VB and a passion for the underdog.

Our friend made Kahlil a member of Essendon and he got a first birthday card signed by Robert Hird. But membership expired and I since purchased a Carlton footy jumper and raincoat. His "grandma" who lives with my Dad also barracks for Carlton, so the maternal influence will undoubtedly settle the matter.

Love your entries no matter how long it is between posts.lol...post...now Im a non-footy male...Im pretty well a non sport male, yet I love getting out, snorkling, diving, sailing and swimming. But I never sit and watch (unless I can't get off the couch as a result of alcohol...hehhe)

But I do love to watch people interact as well. I just got back from a week upon a cruise, it was great to sit back and watch the different personalities play their roles. I've always had this theory, although I dont directly believe in horoscopes I do believe they do hold a great source of personality types, basically twelve, then you have the cusps so theres another 24, 36 basic personality types...I've wanted to sit down, analyse and then prove if the majority of humanity fit within these 36 types..and then check to see if their interactions/relationships coincide with what astrologist predict etc.

Glad to here a daughter enjoying her time with her father...gives me hope for when my two princesses grow up and I've grown old :o)

I did a Myer-Briggs test recently and was a bit startled by how accurate the description was of how I see myself. Up until very recently I have only ever dated taureans - by accident not design. Oddly enough, as a cancerian, a taurus is supposed to be one of the best matches....spooky. Cynical friends tell me that we take from our star signs what suits us and ignore the rest. I also wonder whether if you read your horoscope for long enough, it becomes self-actualizing. i have always hated the emotional, maternal, home-making descriptions that go with my sign but recently I seem to be behaving more and more like these attributes. Are we just being brainwashed?

On the upside, when I don't like what my horoscope says, I just read all the others until I find one that I like!!

Nah, I am a Port supporter and we are far more tolerant! Port for the reasons I outlined to BW but also out of a very warped sense of social justice....historically a team that has supported workers, embraced migrants and encouraged young Indigenous players. Tough, pull-no-punches men with even stronger mothers, wives, sisters and girlfriends. Crows win because of their namby-pamby technical competency. Power win AND lose becaus ethey play with guts, grit and heart. Love my boys ( ... )

I am a Port supporter and we are far more tolerant Bullshit. You are the exception to the rule bini_bini, and the only person I know who follows a football team for political reasons. Logic has no place in football - C'arn the Crows!
