Cable Woes

I'm speechless. My cable connection was down after work today. I'd made a later than normal payment yesterday, so I figured they'd turned me off. I was right. Welcome to my life of having to call tech support on a regular basis and knowing 10 times more than the rep I have to call.

Think of this fun: I had a retail store customer who's partner (that took care of the computers himself) quit. Didn't know any of the passwords, need to reconfigure equipment & change passwords, and the person who's name is on the account . . . doesn't work there anymore. After about 2 hours on the phone I got out the packet sniffer and went to down. If I weren't such a nice professional guy I would have been swearing like a sailor to the windstream "tech support" people.

I share you pain . . . daily.

I'm glad I don't have to deal with "tech support" peoples that much anymore. And when I do they are usually higher up on the food chain than the lowly help desk monkey reading off of a script. That said, I have to deal with stupid shit like people wanting to print to a printer that doesn't exist (and never has) and retarded state management.

Anyway, yeah, I've had a similar issue with my Linksys WRT54G once. Resetting it to factory defaults fixed it. For what ever reason it was being dumb. I then switched from using the Linksys firmware to DD-WRT and haven't had a problem since. This was two years ago.
