Anyone that I work with, lurks in the same IRC channel, or reads mail sent to a mailing list already knows where I'm at with my latest project (thanks, those of you willing to be a sounding board and rule out possibilities)...for those that have time to kill, here's the rundown on where things sit ( Read more... )

I should add I need a DirectX 9.0c native video card with S-video outputs to drive the TV well. Also it'll be HDTV capable once I can afford such a luxury.

That is definitely odd. I still think it's got to be some kind of grounding issue. I know it might be a PITA, but you could try yanking all the parts out of the case you have and connect all the components sans-case and see if it boots.

Unless the AGP slot and this ONE single PCI card, the only one I've ever had trouble with in this machine, share some common non-ground connection, I really don't think that's it. I'm really thinking it's a PnP or IRQ conflict, myself. We'll see come Tuesday when the new board arrives. I'm done messing with it for the weekend.

I'm just sayin - we rent our DVR from Cox for $6/mo...

That out of the way, sounds like it's a mission to make it simply work now, instead of just making a computer DVR.

"Simply work"?! Bah! bobocol December 1 2007, 04:32:57 UTC
The machine works fine. In fact, I'm using it right now to post this, in the livingroom. This 17" CRT in the livingroom is killing me, though.

Only the Tuner/DVR capabilities are lacking at this point. Patience is all I need now. I'm told I have too much of that as it is...

The new board will give me more upgrade flexibility (on the cheap) as far as CPU and RAM go, bump it up from 4x to 8x AGP and give me 2 more PCI slots. I picked up a 60GB drive for free today as well, giving me enough storage space for about 10 hours of recorded video, a small collection of MP3's, etc.
