It just occured to me that "passed on" is a euphemism available only to people who believe in an afterlife. And for them, I suppose, it isn't a euphemism--it's a statement of faith. Atheists and agnostics have to be definite about it and say "died." -

I have just discovered Google Trends. Heaven, I'm in heaven. This is a tool that lets you measure the desires and intentions of the Google-usin' populace worldwide. I have discovered why rum is associated with 1. the West Indies and 2. pirates. (I'd always vaguely wondered why yo-ho-hoing pirates didn't drink whiskey or vodka.) It is because of the huge sugar plantations in the West Indies. Today I was wandering around on Medscape, and I found this:
