Logan Likes Mary Anne! Part 1!

Mar 20, 2017 00:20

Hey, gals! I'm still in a pretty good mood in a big part thanks to all y'all and your lovely comments and decided to snark some more! I did have to stop in the middle of this snark and despair because the Spoop Monster knocked over my nearly full glass of iced tea. And it missed my laptop by this much which nearly gave me a heart attack. But I gave ( Read more... )

Mary Anne is super excited because there's an article on Cam Geary who is totally adorable!--I can't even snark on that. I'd do the same thing ( ... )

Speaking of the poster...why would tape be forbidden, anyway?

I guess they just didn't want pieces of tape piling up in the lockers if the kids didn't clean it up properly. I still don't get why they don't use magnets.

I always forget Cam's a teen too. And a young one at that if he's dating a 14 year old.

I don't know what the big deal is with bringing a lunch. At least you know you're getting something you like. Then again, I never brought lunch because my middles school's french bread pizza wasn't bad so, I always ate that.

It is nice to read about the BSC being normal teen girls, talking about boys and not kids. You know the only one who wouldn't be happy about this is K Ron. But who cares what she thinks?

I feel old as hell saying this but Sixteen was an actual magazine. /random

Yup! I like how it had no ads. It was like the PBS of teen magazines. Pretty awesome.

Really? When I looked it up all that came up was Seventeen. I used to read that and Sassy ALL the time.

'pretty much money'

Strange to hear, but it wasn't so unusual to hear it put that way. "Pretty much" means "a lot." "Pretty much like that," "a lot like that." "Pretty much money," "a lot of money." It's definitely not common now.

Seventeen

And by the time you were that age, it was time for Cosmo and the unrealistic sex tips!

Dawn comments on how much Mary Anne has changed in that she's never shown so much emotion or interest in boys.

My 7-year-old has a crush on Foxy from Five Nights at Freddy's, Ricky Ricardo (need I say the show?), the 10-year-old boy next door and Bernie Sanders.

Me and my C cups at 12 weep.

Been there. It sucked.

I loved school supplies. And this was back in the heyday of Trapper Keeper. My favorites were my horse and foal and my Lisa Frank leopard.

Past-tense? PAST?! I still love school/office stuff. Trapper keeper. I have one. Lisa Frank! My daughter's into that eye-bleed.

it seems like she has a lot more classes than I did. For one thing, I didn't have homeroom or study hall. I had ( ... )

That's so friggin' adorable I could just DIE!

I'm pretty sure I had seven classes too. Let's see-Math, history, biology, reading, creative writing, gym and electoral. Yup, that was it. Mary Anne has pretty much the same but only one English class and added study hall and homeroom. I've never heard of a school with homeroom. I'm not even clear what it is.

Non-pierced hoops are like little hinges with magnets to keep them on. I have some that are the same just for pierced ears. You snap them open and close to get them on your ear.

Every girl I know has a room full of toys. Not just expensive designer toys, but plushies and toys from their childhood. Like in my room I have things like Daryl Dixon next to vintage My Little Ponies next to arpaccaso and Monster High dolls. ANd that's not even counting all the dolls I have for customizing.

Your daughter is too cute. I wish she could meet Bernie Sanders because he seems so nice and adorable.

"Pretty much money" is a very strange expression

I don't remember sixteen magazine either. I read Seventeen though. Had a subscription to that and Cosmo Girl. Oh the memories!

Luckily the phone saves her and the subject changes to some rando girl at school buying a bra. Why would they know this? Who pays attention to that shit

That seems awfully personal for them to know.

Let's see how different this goes from Mallory's trail job.

Proof Mal is the buttmonkey of the series. She was treated like total shit not just at her job, but at the meetings with all those ridiculous tests. Dawn, Logan, Shannon, jessi, and Abby never had to go through that. I don't know why Ann makes mal's life so miserable.

I really like this book too!

I always hated them saying pretty much money. Like I said, it's clunky. It sounds like something a kindergartner would say.

By the time I was in middle school, everyone wore a bra. Even if it was just a training bra, they had one. So, it seems weird that there would be a girl who didn't have one yet. And if Kristy doesn't wear a bra, does she go completely topless when changing for gym? I would think that she'd wear and sports bra or something even if she doesn't really need it. It's just weird to me.

It was Kara Mercuchio! Again, the random stuff that takes over my brain. I always figured she was one of those girls who got her first bra and bragged about it to everyone who would listen.

I still stand by that Mary Anne and Alex totally kissed and she's
been keeping it secret.

I agree. If her first kiss was with Logan I really think
they would have mentioned it.

I hated school but I loved school supplies

Me too. It was so much fun.

One of the confusing things is she uses gum to stick things in her
locker because tape is verboten

This is so weird. You'd think they'd allow tape, do they really
want more things gum is stuck too?

And I would think that the school would be more against nasty chewed
gum than tape.

Exactly.

She says they feel like babies bringing lunch but nothing about the
fact that Dawn does.

Was this normal in the 50s? Cause I've never seen anyone say
anything about kids who brought their lunch except to ask
what they brought and if they wanted to trade.

(a kid kit and a blood oath is a requirement)

LOL!

In some towns, bringing lunch I seen as a sign of being poor, which is fucking stupid. I brought my lunch because the school lunches were nasty. I'm talking inedible. Stuff that looks like trash that only a desperately hungry child would eat. It was upsettingly bad. Meanwhile I had my nice sandwich, yummy chips, a whole apple instead of half of a piece of fruit, and a cupcake. My bagged lunch probably cost more than the school lunch, yet it was the "poor" thing to do. Um...really, the poor kids usually had the school lunches that were free. Bringing a lunch took time and money a lot of poor kids sadly don't have. I didn't realize then the irony of calling the privileged lunch the poor lunch, but do now.

I don't remember the attitude towards bringing lunch in middle school but in grade school it was preferred. EVERYONE brought their lunch in grade school except on pizza day. I always brought lunch because I'm a VERY picky eater. And because I was a spoiled brat, my mom would sometimes bring me take out or take me out for lunch.

In middle school I ate the lunch there because some of it was actually good. I didn't eat the most nutritious lunch, but it was palatable. My schools were very poor and there were no 'poor kids'. We were all middle class/lower middle class. But I was the rich kid in school but nobody treated me differently and I didn't treat anyone differently either. It was just like, 'We all don't want to be here so we all get along'.

In elementary school I went back and forth between bringing my lunch and buying lunch. If it was taco bar day or waffle day I always bought my lunch. My nephew does the same thing at his school he loves their pizza and burger. The rest of the time he brings a lunch. By middle school I always brought my lunch because it was gross. High school nearby fast foods were set up in the lunchroom you could get pizza, chicken fingers or burgers ( ... )
