Apocalypse 002 - When Thresholds Attack

May 23, 2010 02:57

Is the barrier spell - or security system, or whatever it is - on every place but the temporary housing? That’s not right. Don’t the newcomers need it most? Don’t they need to have some sense of sanctuary in a place like this ( Read more... )

No.

Checked the graveyard. No lost souls from the ants for this year so don't worry

Then just the Section 1 houses? Why?

[He's a little surprised that she says this to him. Seems unexpectedly thoughtful, considering his first entry.] Thanks.

No. Maybe it's you?

Welcome.

Probably is. Probably just keeps people who don't live there out. My point is, that kind of protection should be on the temporary housing, too. They need it more.

...what on earth are you talking about?

Whatever's preventing people from walking through the doors when they're opened. I don't know what you call it here.

I don't think I've heard about that before... hold on.

[Trying the doors, here.]

...it seems to work fine? Perhaps the Tree is up to something, or did you receive a memory punishment?

[Wolfram thinks their wires are crossing.]

Well, I'm sure your own security system wouldn't keep you out. I'm just wondering why the temporary housing doesn't get the same thing. I think they need it more, don't you?

[And finally, someone mentions memory crystals to him. :D]

Memory punishment?

...Barrier? That's new. What are you on about?

[Fully thinks the hobo-event is has made a comeback and people are getting locked out of places.]

That said, it's pretty typical for people to not be allowed anywhere but temporary unless they've got a job. Keeps the bums from squatting.

I couldn't go through the doors in Section 1. When they were opened.

[This makes him pause.]

No protection seems a pretty cruel way to motivate someone to get a job.

Huh. Now, I've seen people have troubles getting into their homes in the form of a Sphere-wide lock out, but no issues like that when the doors were open.

No protection? They're as covered by the Watch and the Guard as anyone else. Are you gunning for a security guard at each doorway?

Well, it makes sense that it wouldn't keep out the people who live in the house.

If some houses have this security system, they all should. Especially the temporary housing. That's what I meant.

You mean the deadbolt?

No. After the door's been opened.

The hell are you going into people's houses for?

Got turned around. Wasn't exactly sure what the temporary housing was supposed to look like. My Greeter didn't know how to do his job.

I do not think there is any such security system in place. [taps.] I find it unlikely that one would be installed in our absence. Simply barring the doors would not be very effective against enemies such as the ants were.

It wasn't barring the doors. It was some kind of invisible energy keeping me out. It seemed sturdy enough to handle some big demon ants, to me.

As many homes in section 1 and 2 had their walls and roofs damaged by the ants' explorations, if such a thing had been installed it did not help. Perhaps there is some other explanation behind the force that barred your entrance?

Could be. Someone mentioned the Tree having a hand in it, but I haven't touched any memory crystals.

I recognize your handwriting. Who is this?
