I bought Helena some of her fall clothes last week, most had to be returned due to size, and Helena not liking them. So I took her along when I returned them, and let her pick out what she liked within the budget of what I had already spent. She has very different tastes from me, but what she got does look good on her and she is happy with it ( Read more... )

Helena has been taking 2-5 steps at a time unassisted, and finger walking for a few weeks, but I didn't really felt enough confidence from her to say she was walking.
While she isn't tearing around the room just yet, she is stumbling forward for several feet at a time without falling, so I'm calling it. She's walking at 12 months.

Helena had her 12 month checkup today, and her early tendencies towards being tall, fat, and small-brained have been cast aside in favor finally putting some of those calories into her head. Which is just fine with me ( Read more... )

Last year today I became a mother.
Almost nothing has gone as I planned, wished, or (thankfully) feared, but I wouldn't change a thing. Helena is a clever, pretty, little tank, and my constant joy.

On Wednesday an ENT confirmed that Helena is almost completely deaf from fluid and mucus trapped in her ear. Her last ear infection was 2 1/2 weeks ago, but the fluid is just sitting there waiting to be re-infected. She has lost some of her 'words', and she brings books to me to be read to, then gets upset because she can't hear me. She keeps ( Read more... )

Tim and Mom took Helena out to the Knightdale community day last Saturday.
She was too little for most of the cool things they had there for the kids, but she did get to swing for the first time.
