We have a huge Trane heat pump that had been around for several years when we bought our house, and the inspector judged to have many more years left in it. I'm sure it wasn't cheap, but it's been nearly maintenance-free.
Thanks, I was leaning towards a Trane from the research I've done, but we'll see how it goes. As you say they're not cheap so we may get something less expensive instead.
Yeah, it's a hard decision. Although, with something like this, you tend to get what you pay for. At least your job situation seems to be moving along (finally) so you will have an easier time paying, whatever you decide.
Yes, thank goodness. I just signed my contract, and I'll be making about 3/4 of what Tim does so our income will almost double. Even with paying for child care, gas, etc. it will still be a big boost.
The system itself won't be so bad, but we may need new duct work, which will take the labor costs up. We'll need to see how much the whole thing will be, but unless it's ridiculous we'll go with the best we can get.
Of course in this heat, whoever gets here soonest will definitely have an advantage. :)
We had ARS install our system (can't remember if its Trane or Carrier) but they did a great job, were much cheaper than Lowes and other estimates we got, and had a 12months-no-interest cedit card offer.
