nirvana and lunges in the same sentence? argh. i haven't been to the gym for months and most days i think of my membership wasting away. sigh... it's so antithetical to an african sensibility to go to the gym and sweat it out in a row of white people, i succumb to the peer group pressure not to bother. i kind of miss it, but i often wonder where i squeezed it into my day.
but lol making a u shape with a pouty bottom! i've done some of those dance classes, and i must admit i kind of had fun, but i also found the incessant repetition of fractional moves started to drive me insane. and i agree that some dances need curves. thank goodness! i saw a skinny belly dancer once at a turkish restaurant in richmond and there was nothing very exciting in watching her.
Yeah who would have thought. I abhored lunges in the beginning like anyone else and hated the thought of doing them much less with weights! But really once I started adding weights, my body just kept adapting and they fairly quickly became manageble. It's probably also that lunges are just at the end of the workout and and because it uses a big muscle group I often get an endorphin hit. :o) But talk to me about tricep dips or shoulder exercises in general and I would have to say bleagh!
I must say it was gratifying to see one of the punters do a better job of the mambo than the instructor because she had a arse on her. Gives one hope. I have to say I liked the Latin dances more anyway and now I like them more. I remember when I went to the WCC thingy in Canberra and all the Latino delegates were dancing and even though the moves are simple, they look so good.
Urgh, you're making me feel really guilty! I do need to start getting some more regular exercise. I have never been inside a gym and I can't dance to save myself! Perhaps a few more laps around the block ...
Its not a discipline/self flagellation thing though and that is its beauty. I so enjoy going - also cos it's kid free time!!! Would I make you feel guilty if I blogged about eating a yummy Thai meal or seeing a movie cos its in that stratosphere of good time for me. It just so happens its keeps the fat in check but with my robust appetite, I probably need to gym a bit harder!
WOW, another glimpse into your life. I too, am very "white bread" but I think I do have a sense of rhythm. I am very sensitive to music, but I sure cannot dance to it. I think that's great that you took the plunge into a new experience!
And you like techno!!! You people over there just continually amaze me. What are some of your current likes (groups, tracks)?
Unfortunately I now fit into the daggy category of 30something who listens to stuff that I don't know the name of - especially at the gym unless I take the time to ask the instructor the song name/artist, etc..
But I have bought music on that basis - Kosheen being an eg. - they're brits. There's this song I love called "Lola's song" at the moment and I like Everything But The Girl - they're brits too.
Ah - I think it's "Lola's Theme" from Shape UK which is a really cool song. But yes, the one thing about techno is the diversity and various remixes and cuts which sometimes make it difficult to know who song what.
