still going

Jun 27, 2008 15:46

This weekend is our Big Move, to the house I found but didn't mention here. I was very close to updating LJ about it, but every time I felt I knew what was going on with the rental agency, it seemed like the game was changed on me. I'll recap, again using bullet points (and an LJ cut), because I am made of the lazy:
rental agency BS. VERY long and raving. )

Aieeee, that's some seriously abstruse bureaucracy you had to go through. I mean, seriously, WTF is the point of the "guarantor"? Does this agency expect to dun your guarantor for back rent if you end up to be shifty? Good lord.

Anyway, I'm glad you got through it and I hope the Handing Over of the Keys and the moving from one house to the other goes smoothly before you head off for Seoul. (Take lots of pictures, you ultimate world traveler, you!)

Also: "as well as ringing their offices..."

Awww, look how English you sound!

yes, I think they believe they can get the money from the guarantor if we can't pay our rent. Legally, I suppose they could, as essentially the guarantor signs the form saying so. It's a bit insane, in my opinion. :D

If we can find the camera after this whirlwind move, we'll take pics!

OMG, beauracracy is insane. I've been going around in circles trying to get everything I need for a student visa, and the big sticking point is also the not wanting things printed off the 'net, when that is how most of the world now does business, and Sallie Mae swears up and down that they NEVER EVER EVER send out approval letters... :p

Sorry you had such a headache. <3

yes the need for the 'official' bank statements has really held things up. It's a shame that banks can't be more accommodating. This whole thing has only made me decide that we need to switch back to paper statements, because the bank is clearly unable to fulfill this sort of request (not an outrageous one, one many people in this country must need since the 'real' statements are asked for from these agencies) within a reasonable amount of time.

Good luck with your move! It certainly is a lot of hassle, but your experience sounds like it will be an exciting one, as well!

On behalf of my fellow countrymen and my country's seriously archaic customs, I apologise. :-S
I mean, jeez. I'd like to say it's easier if you're an actual UK citizen, but that would be a lie!

oh and by the way, we haven't had any picspam for a while. Just sayi n'.

yes S kept assuring me this was all normal and I just thought wow, we're each working with a different definition of 'normal'!

I mean, jeez. I'd like to say it's easier if you're an actual UK citizen, but that would be a lie!

I believe this. :( A friend is going through something similar with her daughter, who is starting Uni soon. The mum is trying to secure housing (or something) for her and it requires showing some sort of bills in the name of the daughter... but how many teenagers have bills in their name?? Ahh it's a whole other story..

I'll see if we can produce some pics in Korea!

I'm seriously exhausted just reading about this! What a disaster.

I hope you manage to actually get settled okay.

And yes, I agree with Rickfan and Laurel ... picspam would be good. :D

If all else fails, the current landlords are fine with us staying another month or whatever. They don't really care as long as they can continue to show the house to prospective buyers. So, we won't be homeless!
