I am so glad you reviewed this, spoilers and all. There was no way I would buy another book in this series since the only think I like about the author is her world-building. I detested Mary in the first book for all of the reasons you've described about Gaby. Poor plots, loose threads, passive and non-engaging characters...thanks for reminding me of all the things that drove me crazy about FoHaT. Loved the title though. And the concept is wasted, which is too bad because it is intriguing and has so much potential.

I agree...a lot of the plot was repetitious. I, however, liked Gabry more than younger Mary (who annoyed me to no end). I did think this "companion" was a bit of an improvement from the first book, though. I agree with you on the ending...where will Ryan go from here?!

Also, I didn't know about the original cover for this book! How sad I am that it was never printed! :( The second set just can't compare to the first!!!

Here's the link to my review, if you're interested.

Thanks for the link! I'm glad someone enjoyed this book more. I'm afraid I didn't have the same experience, though there were some cool moments.
