Probably there's a meme for this

You know that thing, where you haven't posted to LJ in forever, and then you start feeling like the next post has to recap at least some fraction of what's happened since you last posted, and the more time that goes by the more daunting such a recap seems?

Yeah, that.

Anyway, hi!

I get the same thing when I have some regular event I've been attending, and then I miss it a few times in a row. Invariably nobody cares that I've been gone for weeks, but I still feel like I need to justify my absence somehow.

I have found this becomes especially awkward when, once or twice, I had really interesting fieldwork-related reasons for being gone. Now mundane explanations of absence just feel like I'm letting everyone down.

Hi!

I'm in the ranks of "yay! People still use LJ" and not going to complain about gaps in the slightest. :)

I miss LJ. I do not work well with the microblogging format.

We LJ denizens like all sorts of posts... little anecdotes and long recaps and memes. Anything and everything. So keep posting long or short posts. Whatever you want. It's your journal and you don't owe us anything.

I always wonder about that--it's my journal, yes, but if I didn't care about my audience I'd just write it on paper and keep it to myself. But maybe I'm thinking about it wrong.
