good news

Jan 20, 2009 10:12

On this auspicious day (ding, dong, the 8-year reign of idiocy is over), I am very pleased to report that the blood tests and ultrasounds came out perfectly normal, so much so that no amnio is needed after all (insert big sigh of relief), and...it's a boy! The pictures leave, er, no doubt. F will be thrilled, he really wanted a little brother ( ( Read more... )

That sounds wonderful! No extra hazardous tests when you don't need them. Hope this news makes it easier to relax and enjoy the months ahead!

And a boy! That will be so much fun for Forest....and for all of you of course.
Good thing I didn't send the dresses! Newborn is quite young to start with drag ;-)

Thanks, and yes, it's a big relief -- even if the chance of a serious (miscarriage-inducing) problem is 1 in 400, that's a small but real chance that we could have that happen with an otherwise perfectly healthy baby. The amnio appointment was scheduled for right after the ultrasound if we'd decided to go ahead with it. Divination seemed to say "let what is in the dark stay in the dark, don't pierce the veil," but we were waiting for all of the test results, including today's ultrasound, before finally deciding, and I'm glad we did as we did.

And as a brief ramble, it's funny -- until at least sometime in the later 1800s (industrial age), all boy and girl babies, once they outgrew swaddling clothes and for the first few years at least, tended to wear what were basically dresses or smocks, none of this sex-typed clothing modern society seems to be so concerned about.

:) Baby's about 8 oz or so right now, and growing every day. Quite a mover, too, which is normal at this age, but it was so cool to see him doing his little calisthenics!
