Wow, it has been a long time since I've updated.  Combination of insane workload in the lab and lots of church stuff going on I guess...according to Dr. Liao I've got to get a paper published this quarter and advance to candidacy...which leaves me with about 6 weeks left...

For the first time in a long time I find myself with a day where I don't have to do anything other than my regular work.  I thought I was going to be supervising some of the undergraduates in one of the labs putting on a demo for the chemE car, but it looks like the demo's outside, so all I really need to be around for is to let them into the lab ( Read more... )

The last two days(or is it three, I lost track...) have been just killer.  I started off this morning an hour behind, and right now I'm about 4.5 hours behind my intended schedule.  In a few minutes, my protein gel will be done staining, so I'll put it in water and wash it either overnight or for 3 hours.  If for 3 hours, then I can work on a ( Read more... )

Every once in a while I get a reminder why I do it.  Things can be really tough juggling grad school, church, and everything.  When everything goes wrong all at once, experiments completely fail, advisor loses patience with me, catch kids cheating on a test in my class, so much work I don't have time to cook any real meal, I'm late to everything, ( Read more... )

I have reached an all time low in my PhD chemical engineering research career....today I measured the absorbance of water.  I seriously measured the absorbance of water...using a several thousand dollar piece of equipment.  And here I thought I left those days behind me back when I took my introductory chemistry lab...
