Don't go to Santa Monica beach though. :) I would go to Manhattan Beach, or actually I recommend southern Orange County beaches (Newport, Dana Point, Laguna). They're cleaner, and thus will be healthier for you both physically and mentally. :)

hermosa is nice but crowded on the weekends. clean though. love the bike path!
