Just because you're a lefty doesn't mean you can't have things that bring you joy, even if those things themselves are affected or even created by capitalism. How's that?

That works. I seem to recall you are a Giants fan? I saw them when they came through town earlier in the month.

I don't really feel any shame in my love of baseball, despite the particular incarnations of imperialism at play (hello Dominican Republic training camps!). But I thought perhaps I'd gone over the edge with the excessive internet-reading.

Speaking of the internet, while I was writing this the Phillies wrapped up a victory against Boston, and Bobby Abreu was wrapping up this phenomenal box score:

B Abreu RF - AB 3 R 2 H 3 RBI 5 BB 2 SO 0 LOB 0

i would suggest you have not gone nearly far enough. more baseball, please, in all its glorious incarnations, including baseball themed clothing (work and casual, OK) and anything else possible.

Woah.

I will have to give careful consideration to whether business casual and baseball have any acceptable overlaps.

Fantastic.

I think you're right - there are a lot of secret baseball fans in unexpected professions and clubs.

I think it's because of the pace: slow and boring, but you can never tell...
how it will go, or what you will do.

Maraniss? I never heard of him before, but I read a good review of the Clemente book by that right-wing asshole baseball lover, George Will, in the NYT Review of Books. So far it's not bad, but I'm only about 30 pages in. I'll let you know.

One thing that I find really fascinating about England is that being interested in culture/politics and being interested in sports are not mutually exclusive like in the US. And there are loads of books about football (I'm using the rest of the world's definition here) that are really left-wing and critique things like the racism of fans or the corporatization of the game. You're in perfectly acceptable company.
