Does "Oh, Girl" by The Chi-Lites(?)count, or is that too old for the period of music you're talking about? Can't hear that song without tearing up. :)

Heh, I still have a Bangles cassette around here somewhere.

Actually, "Oh, Girl" is outside of the "official" era of Motown (as is "Making My Way Back to You", which is waaaaaay outside the era). Most musical historians divide Motown up into two periods: 1958-1971, which are the Detroit years. That was the real cream of the genre. After that, the studios moved to LA and while it still produced good stuff, it wasn't quite the same. And music was changing at that time, too, so there were several things that influenced change in the sound.

Interesting. I confess I know very little about music history, but this post is making me want to listen to some Motown. :)

I don't know a lot of music history myself, but I seem to pick up little bits of info here and there along the way. What did I do last Thursday at 7pm? Couldn't tell you. "Blinded by the Light", which Manfred Mann made famous was originally written by who? A: Bruce Springsteen. Oh yeah, THAT'S found a home in my head for whatever reason! :p

Go on, download some Motown. Mandana would approve. ;)
