Graphic novel suggestions

First, my and Tiffany's vacation to California a few weeks ago was pretty cool. We went to San Francisco and did a lot of touristy things, and it was all-around a good time. I'm not sure how well they fit your criteria, but I'm a huge fan of the Valérian and Laureline albums. Unfortunately I think only a few of them have been translated into English so far.

Brad already mentioned my absolute favorite comic book of all time (and it's all in one trade), but 100% yes Midnight Nation.

Other than that, to go with your Batman: Year One, I'd suggest The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. Read them in order (after Year One). Year One and Dark Knight Returns are regarded more highly since they were highly influential in what comics are today, but I feel the Long Halloween is the best "Batman" book out there (i.e. detective work, a murder mystery, etc.).

I'm currently on vacation, but am sure if given enough time I could come up with a lot more :).

Honestly, Batwoman: Elegy was really really good, and is one of my favorite comics ever. And it's only one book.
